Caked Out But Need Something!
Decorating By cakesrock Updated 19 Aug 2010 , 10:50pm by still_learning
I am really caked out right now, busy and the thought of the work involved in making yet another cake does not inspire me (need a cake break)! But I really need to make a thank you something for my kids daycare staff, as we are leaving in 10 days and I have already committed to making something.
I wanted to do little hearts with all the staff names on them and handprints (got edible images of my kids handprints made.) I was thinking of doing cupcakes instead, as they are so much easier and quicker! Maybe I could put them all in the shape of a heart with little hearts in fondant on top with them names, and one with thank you. I do have the 1/2 sheet cake made already, but it is the decorating that takes sooo long! There are about 15 staff.
Any other ideas? TIA!
Well, if you already have the sheet cake done... can you take the hearts and make them into the shape of a schoolhouse? Are they small enough that you can do something like that? then just put grass around it for the yard, a sun, clouds... I can picture it, but not sure if it makes sense. Good luck, I'm sure what ever you do will be appreciated!!

I'm all for cupcakes - so much less stressful than a cake! I always want to do too much when I do a cake and then the nice gesture of making something makes me miserable. I love the idea of hearts with individual names and maybe the 'Thank you' heart can be a bit bigger/different color so it really stands out. The individual cupcakes are easy for them to eat, serve, take home at the end of the day. If they aren't having a special party where the cake will be served then cupcakes are definitely the way to go.
