No One Ever Sees My Pictures!! Vent
Decorating By multilayered Updated 17 Aug 2010 , 9:15pm by debbief
This might sound like an odd thing to complain about, but I can't be the only one...I upload a picture and check it much later on and it has like 10 views. Most of us work really hard on some of these cakes, and I really enjoy being able to share my work with other decorators. I appreciate feedback, and just the knowledge that some spectacular decorators are viewing my work. But it seems the second one of my pictures appears it is gone all the way down the line in seconds.. and no one ever sees them I have only started decorating a little over a year ago and it would just be nice to have the opinions of some of the other decorators I know I'm not the greatest decorator on this site by any means but I believe that my cakes are worth looking at. I mean isn't that one of the biggest reasons we all joined Cake Central to learn and to share our work with others who understand what goes into it?? I am proud when I finish a cake that came out to my expectations and I want to share and it is beyond disappointing when it doesn't even get a chance to be seen. For a while I was even doubting my skill level...and that is certainly not what I expected when I joined.Don't get me wrong I don't expect a pat on the back all the time...just some acknowledgment from my peers would be
nice. Ok I'm done...either ignore my post of make fun of me..go right ahead.
what are you talking about? It looks like you have lots of views on your stuff.....maybe on some of the ones that you don't get as many views, it's either at a busy time or a not so busy time and it gets overlooked.
Either way, I wouldn't worry about it....you do good work.....
OMG, the most views I have is 329! You have some pics with thousands of views...
I looked at your gallery and you do very nice work. One of the great things about CC is that there are sooooo many photos to look at so that's why your pics get "buried" so quickly I suppose. Also, I only save the photos if I need to go back to them as inspiration for future cakes, and I suppose lots of other folks have different "philosphies"! ...So don't be down on yourself
If you're looking for specific feedback, then ask for it, and I'm sure you'll get it!

Thanks The pictures with views on them have been on for a long time. I guess I was talking more about the day I post a picture, I'm all excited I finished the cake it came out nice and I just really want to share it...and the second I post it it's gone....it's just very anticlimactic. I guess I'm looking for that instant gratification thing right when I'm in the moment. I am soo excited to post a cake that I am proud of on here..because only other cakers really understand the process...so I know my post may seem silly or childish so be it....I can't help that I feel very disappointed that when I post a pic it's gone immediately. I just posted one a little while ago that I am super proud of and it's long gone down the line already...

Thank you!!! Like I said I think I just "sensitive" the last several pics I posted that I was excited about just got buried It was just a little disheartening but I'll get over it
I post pictures, get very few views, few if no comments and no favorites.
It used to bother me but I've just decided its a good place to keep all of my cake pictures together.
Trust me you are not alone in how you are feeling. I have some pics that I've posted on a day and soon it is down the line. Some are eventually seen by others and some are not. I just chalk it up to a lot of pictures being posted and what sparks interest for the day. I have learn to be happy with my pictures just being posted on a website. I use mine and other's pictures for inspiration for future projects. HTH

I have to confess I almost never look at the photos. Unless I am bored and want something to do, which lately is rare as I have been so busy.
I wouldn't worry about it, they pick up eventually.
I understand and feel the same. Some of the time it is when you post your pics. The weekends are real busy with a lot of new pics and they seem to get lost fast. Try posting on a different day. I have also noticed that pics don't get noticed until someone is looking for ideas. My pic with most views did not get noticed for the longest time. I was really bothered because I loved the cake. A few MONTHS later I noticed it had several hundred views. It takes a while. Seasonal cakes also come and go in viewing patterns.
Your work is amazing and before long you will see that your photos are being viewed. Perhaps you have several "friends" on CC and you could PM them with the news you just completed a fun cake and wanted to share? You can add me to the list and I would be more than happy to see your new projects. My DH just pulled my caking hobby to a halt. I miss it so much and would love to live vicariously thru other cakers!

Thank you! I hope you are able to start decorating again soon you are truly talented
I used to feel a little self-conscience because I didn't get a lot of comments. I wanted feedback on how I was doing for my skill level, but I didn't realize (I have discovered since) that most people aren't on here looking at the photos...except mostly newcomers...they are on here looking for inspiration or instruction. It is basically a "brag book" to cakers and a place to hang out with other cakers on the forums. A place to get to know people with a common interest. I really am addicted to this site. It is such a wealth of information. Please don't get discouraged...it isn't anything personal. Try adding more keywords to your search block when you post a picture. It may help generate hits to your photo. For instance say you post a Hannah Montana cake in your keywords put, Hannah Montana, (type of icing), (type of cake), (if it has RKT), (key colors). Hope that makes sense. Edited to add: By the way...your cakes are amazing...don't be so hard on yourself. You really don't need outside acknowledgment...you can see the confidence in your work...keep on caking .

This is a great idea! Invite several cake-buddies on here to form your own support-and-critique group.
I just looked at some of your photo's and saw that most had quite a few views, plus many of them have been chosen as a favorite by other CCers. I'd take that as a compliment & be happy with that. Any comments added would be "the icing on the cake" of course, but in reality, thats not going to happen too often.
Theres so many new cake photo's being added it would be impossible to comment on each one. By the time one finishes adding a comment to one cake, any other cake/s that had caught ones eye, have long dissapeared. I'm sure thats the reason you don't have the comments you'd like to see, as well as the many other CC members.
Hi ~ Here is a link to ''Under noticed cakes"".
http://cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopicp-6914752-.html#6914752 In there I do try
to explain why your creations are missed at times. We have about 2,000,000 members and
they are 24/7 uploading their pics. Some are lucky when their cakes get shown for a bit,
other (including myself) miss the boat. There's really no special time to upload, it's
the 'luck of the drawer'.
AND yes!!! tell your friends you have uploaded your cakes and ask them to comment.
HTH
I forgot to add you should be proud when you see your cakes saved in
the favorites of others. And many just don't want to take the time to
comment since there are sooooooooooooooo mannnnnnny cakes to see!
-hates when people complain about this...
making awesome cakes should not be about how many views or favorites you get.. i actually like it when i deliver the cake and get the compliments, its good enough for me
starting a group sounds like an awesome idea... but then again isnt that what facebook is for??
Love the support group of FB and twitter and the like but I think the best way to get improvement of your work is with the aid and pointers of people who do cakes. How many people think cake baking and decorating is a bit of flour, sugar, eggs and a few hours in the kitchen, and voila a massive tier cake with gorgeous gumpaste decorations ready to be photo'd for a mag cover. The honest criticism of cakers and helpful pointers from fellow CCers is the best. It is amazing how honest people can be when they are candid. When you get a thumbs up from a fellow CCer, at least to me, that is way more of a compliment than from a cake muggle.
I have noticed that there seems to be a glitch in the photo stream on the home page. I will click on the tab and it will skip several photos and show photos that were uploaded a day or two earlier. This is how I think a lot of cakes aren't noticed before they are bumped off the photo stream. I've started looking at "recently updated" instead of the photo stream but I think a lot of people look at the photo stream and choose favorites from there. I don't know....LOL....honestly there are a LOT of undernoticed cakes here in my opinion. I've seen some really amazing cakes that didn't get any recognition whatsoever....so....I certainly wouldn't take it personal.
Your cakes are lovely! You should be proud.
What you are describing happens to all of us though ALL OF THE TIME. There are just so many talented people on this site and the flow of pictures never slows. I have even put them on in the wee morning hours when the kids are tucked in bed and there is a moments peace and there are always others doing the same. You think to yourself, I must be the only cake crazy up at 3:00am posting, but nope. Do not worry your pretty little head over this. Just keep up the beautiful work and move on to the next cake, you'll be surprised how many times your cakes will be pulled up for reference from their tags (so tag well).

It just seems different to me since the changed the format of the page. I noticed some cakes stay on there forever, and some are gone right away.

I just posted about that yesterday in another section where people were complaining that they could not upload properly. Something strange was definately happening.
There are so many cakes on here it would be impossible to comment or favorite every one of them.
Thank you for all the understanding I'm glad I'm not alone...and I do have a facebook page where friends can comment on my cakes which i love but I really love the opinions of of cakers who truly understand the process
You know, I dont' think it's the quality of your work, so much as the quality of the photographs. (That's not meant to sound harsh at all!) Have you ever noticed that a lot of times, the simplest of designs makes it into the top. A lot of times, it's all about background, lighting, "accessories", etc. If you want your cake to stand out in the photo stream, you need to make sure the picture is awesome.
This is something I really need to work on! I think I'm going to take a class on this!! Just as an example, Here's a picture I took of two cakes this weekend, and following are pictures a photographer took Which one captures your attention>?
ETA pictures!!
Wow chefjulie! I need to take some classes too. My pictures are not great. I also think that the camera being used has a lot do do with it as well.
To the OP: Your cakes are beautiful. You do a great job!
I agree with the camera, to a certain extent... I have a Canon Rebel- a decent, semi-professional DSLR- I just don't know how to use in a way that will take *great* photos. (This is where the classes come in! )

I have a Canon Rebel XTi DSLR. I bought it thinking I'd finally be able to take fabulous photographs. Was assured anyone could figure out how the camera works by reading the manual, as it was so user friendly.
Not! As in not user friendly for me.. I've gone back to using my old point and shoot. At least I can take a resonable photo with it.
I know I need to take lessons to figure out how to use the Cannon properly, but hate the fact I have to pay out even more money to be able to do so!

I'm no expert but I've read some excellent tutorials on line! Just google Food Photography. With so many bloggers trying to get decent pictures (even with point and shoots) you should be able to find very good tips, at least to start exploring the features of your camera! You can also use Photoshop or some other editing program. They can transforma a decent photo in an amazing one. (I've learnt to take better pictures now than the ones in my photos. I do it with my P&S).
