Hello,
I baked a RV cake yesterday and thought it came out a bit to dry. What ingredient can be added to scratch batter to make for a moist cake? TIA.

Here is the recipe I used:
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. butter flavoring
1 1/2 oz. bottle of red color
3 Tbl. (level) cocoa
2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbl. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, and flavors. Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring. Add to first mixture. Alternately add flour and buttermilk. Mix baking soda and vinegar in small bowl; add to batter. Blend. Bake in three 9" or 10" pans for 20 - 25 minutes at 350°. Let cool completely. Cover with frosting.

Try baking on a lower temp. like 325. Or it could be that you over cooked it a bit? Also you can use a syrup on the layers after baking if you don't already.

I might try lowering the temp next time to 325 as I baked it at 350. I also under baked it a bit because I was afraid of drying out the cake! Guess that didn't work. lol.
