HELP! I'm trying to cover a cake dummy but every time I lay the fondant on top it tears at the edges. What am I doing wrong?

It sounds like your fondant isn't thick enough. Try rolling it out again and see if that helps.

I don't know about anybody else, but I smooth the edges of the dummy first before I apply fondant on them. I also tend to roll out the fondant a little thicker for dummies then regalur cakes. Hope that helps. icon_smile.gif

Yeah, it didn't work with thicked fondant and it must be b/c the edges are so sharp. Will try again tomorrow.

I rubbed shortening on the edges of the dummies & didn't have any problems applying the fondant

I sand the edges down too. I am ok with covering cakes, but I cannot get my corners sharp like more profesh bakers, and dummies always make the fondant look so sharp, and the real cake tier never matches. This way, it looks more uniform.
