Cake Extender For Scratch Cakes?????

I've been hearing (reading) so much about the extender recipes since I've been here at CC and they sound really good. Thing is, I do everything from scratch and even still, I get a little frustrated when I have to an extra batch of batter just to maek the cake rise to the desired height in the pan. Do any of you all know of an extender for recipes from scratch?
