I loved this cake when I saw it and I want to make one for my son's briss (Jewish circumcision ceremony) when he is born. I tried to contact the person who made it but I never received a response. does anybody know how to make the top part (dome) of the bassinet? Thank you so much!

It looks like gumpaste is holding it up. The white part. Then it is fondant draped over it. It would have to be made in advance around some sort of mold or support, then put on the cake once it is dried. Just a guess.
I honestly do not know for sure but it looks like an oval cake covered in a lot of fondant maybe with a dowel as a structure for the top part.
I'm sorry I don't, but hopefully someone will chime in soon!
Otherwise, in the comments section of that cake, someone asked to be PM'ed. Maybe you can send them a msg to see if she sent them directions.
Good luck
If you go to youtube, there is a video on how to make a bassinet cake. She uses wires.
I would agree with the fondant covered gumpaste idea....you could use something like a ball pan, cover half with gumpaste, then drape the fondant. You would have to let the gumpaste dry for some time so it could support the fondant.

This is her flickr page with a similar canopy.
She mentions Mexican Paste.
I would make the dome part of the crib out of gumpaste, form it over a large platic easter egg for the oval effect, let it dry for several days , then drape with fondant rolled very thin and let dry. Hope this helps.
Just saw this recently added in the photo section http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1769028.html
I once made one similar. I used an egg shaped styrofoam convered it with plastic film and piped royal icing over it until I gave it the shape of a dome. Let it dry until it gets hard. I guess after doing that, you can attach the support for the veil with fondant or even better with gum paste. Then you can hung the draped fondant over the support.
I hope this helps you
Thank you everyone! I will send a pm to the person that left her e-mail in the comments to see if she got an answer from the decorator.
Maybe I can try making it now (just the top part) since I am still in my 8th month that way I'll know if it will work. I assume there has to be some kind of support at the top but I am not sure. Thank you for your input!
