I was just looking at the pictures again. In the photo where they are working on the cake is there a duplicate cake in the back of the room???? or am I seeing things?

Looks like another cake but not the same....lets hope better lol...I think the one tier looks cockeyed and the flowers look dirty. Sure hope it tasted better sheesh.......Edna or Shugarshack could have done way better

I just can't believe that for the price they didn't get a PERFECT cake. And the fact that they allowed photos of those huge gaps to go out w/o retouching them doesn't seem too wise, either. But, I guess once you do a wedding of that magnitude people will want your services no matter what.

Curious...How would one fix gaps like that??? It really, really bothers me too. Not to be critical, but when I look at the cake, my eye goes right there. If it was mine, I'm thinking...what would I do to fix? Pic touch up is one way, but really...what would you do? I'm thinking RI? Would it be hard to blend color? I insist on ribbon or bead because i cannot deal with gaps.
Would like to hear...what would you do to fix?

So disappointing to see such a bland cake. Just as others have stated, its not my style, but I sure hope the bride and groom were happy with it.

It almost does look like the flowers have some luster dust on them.. If you look close on the close up picture of the flowers, It looks a litte shimmery to me....So maybe a very small part of this could be the photos not actually showing the shimmer? I know its a stretch, but hey, im tryin' here!

I agree with previous posts that the gaps should not be there. This is a beautiful design, but they could have avoided the gaps simply by waiting until it was stacked to put the embellishments (fondant or gumpaste accents) on and am surprised they were putting flowers on the cake while it was still leaning. What a surprise for the price of that cake.

I went back and looked a 2nd time and I think you're right! It's a bit blurry, but it looks like an identical cake, just turned on a slight angle. Wonder if they made up a practice dummy?

I am also on the "eh" bandwagon was very disappointed. For that price there shouldn't have been gaps and it shouldn't have been leaning. I only counted 8 tiers, unless there is a very very tiny one at the top under the flowers (which I thought was just the topper). The flowers are gorgeous in shape but seem bland and lifeless in the color department. As for the medallions, yuck. thumbsdown.gif But thats just my humble, monday morning quarterback, opinion. icon_lol.gif

Any word on what the flavors and fillings were? Not familiar with gluten-free so I'm interested to know.

well things might happen during delivery or something, if its me I'll make some extra tiers or extra flowers or even a extra cake!! What worst than a celebrity wedding and something happens to the cake, even if I'm not a celebrity, I would be pissed off if my cake wasnt what I expected, like a noticeable broken clutter of gumpaste flowers and etc.

For such a price I would make a spare.

I'll bet it's 1,000. I made 100 flowers for my daughter's wedding cake and they just filled the tier between the 8" and 12" tiers. Some of mine were smaller flowers, but they don't go as far as you'd think.

It almost looks like the tiers are single layer tiers. And the flowers look like the premade ones that you can buy. Very chalky and dull looking. The flowers definately needed some shading or accent color of some kind. Definately not an $11,000 cake. I expected something so much better.

Take a look at some gum paste flowers made by heavenly cakes. Notice the sheen and softness of the flowers. Especially the white lilies. I tried to find all white but couldn't. However, the same effect can be done on an all while cascade. The quality of her floral work is fantastic! They look so real!

Here's one of her white cakes w/white orchids:

The cake is a disappointment to me. I hope that the lighting is very poor, b/c those flowers look so morbid. They remind me of very faded gp flowers that have been sitting under light a long time. Not that I could have done any better, but for $11,000, I would expect more.

I have only just seen the pics of the cake. i am really surprised at the gaps round the tiers as some of you have said your eye is just drawn to it - is it me or does it just look "unfinished" like that. Also the board isn't iced either. It wouldn't have taken much to fill the gaps with piped royal icing to match the colour of the iced tiers and smoothed with a tiny pallet knife. Wouldn't be so bad if there had been something going round the bases but obviously it was left like this? it is a lovely cake and obviously took a lot of work but looks badly "finished"?

I think the cake is beautiful.

And I am willing to bet it is EXACTLY what the bride ordered. You don't make a cake for someone like that who's paying the kind of money they are and not do exactly as they want it. thumbs_up.gif

It's a pretty cake, BUT.......... I agree with everyone here,,, there are by far MORE fabulous cakes here....
I thought the cakes were rather short in height size. And you could see the gaps in each tier. Maybe they should have put a small ribbon fondant around each tier and painted it silver or put a small silver ribbon on each tier to cover the gaps.

About how big do you all think each tier size is? I'm figuring since it's Hillary and Bill's daughter, they probably shelled out close to $5,000.00 to $11,000.00 for this baby........

personally I was unimpressed. I am not a huge fan of all white cakes. I love color and bling!!

But as long as the bride was happy. That is all that matters.

And I did notice the gaps around the tier bottoms. icon_eek.gif OMG!! I have turned into a cake snob!!!

Wow! I think this cake is awesome for being gluten free. I can't imagine baking a cake like that gluten free. The flowers are amazing. I bet this is exactly what the bride ordered! Don't know about the gaps - maybe they were fixed on site?

I think the cake is quite plain but still pretty spectacular. I think the tiers are 4" high (if you compare them to the decorators hand), but some are so wide in diameter it really throws you off.
As for the greyish flowers, maybe she wanted them like that. Maybe grey is the new white. Maybe they just come out grey in the main photo, since most appear whiter in the close up flower photo, with some shimmer as someone pointed out. Maybe the lighting was a bit dodgy, and the official wedding photographer will get better pics (not that we are likely to see those!).
Maybe we're all secretly wishing we got that order and the $11k icon_biggrin.gif
