I went to a local craft store to buy a cutter I needed for some baby shower cookies. TONS of cutters, and they were out of the one I needed! But I didn't go home empty handed. I wandered over to the fabric section, and they had recently stocked a bunch of Halloween fabrics. I instantly fell in love with two designs, and had to buy some of each fabric. One is of an adorable black cat, and the other has dancing skeletons wearing sneakers. So if you're ready to start thinking about Halloween cookies, check out your local fabric store for ideas! Now I can't wait for October to roll around!

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays for cookie making.
I have yet to walk into a craft store just to buy one item without walking out with a basket full of things.
Glad to see that I am not the only one already thinking about the Halloween cookies!
My sons couldn't believe that Halloween stuff was already out. Even after explaining that this was "craft" stuff, and if you want to make items for the holiday, you need time, they still thought 3 months in advance was silly! Should I have told them that there was some Christmas fabric in stock also?
What materials do you use to make your cookie cutters from these pictures on the fabrics, etc. Do you make a pattern and place on the dough to cut out or actually make a cookie cutter?
I will use the fabric design to make up a drawing of what I want the cookie to be, then trace it onto some plastic (I recycle the plastic fronts of the holiday booze packages my husband buys). I then place the template on the dough to cut around. It's a lot more time consuming than using a cutter, but you get exactly the size and shape cookie you want.
