::bangs head against wall::

I'm watching DC Cupcakes. ARGH!!

Bride and grooms came in to order cupcakes. THE DAY BEFORE THEIR WEDDING. And they had custom recipes. The girls slept on pink bakery boxes under a work table on the floor of the lab.

OMG.

Oh yeah, and decorating a wedding cake.

I just finished my first contest cake a few days ago! Yay for me, getting that over with! It was an online contest so I just had to send in a couple pictures.

Tomorrow at work we have about 60 orders. Nothing too bad.

I just finished converting my second bedroom into a "gumpaste room". Now I have a place to work on flowers where my cat can't get in my face!

I've got a "candyland" cake in the works though in a few weeks. My nephew's turning 4. Think I'm just gonna do a round cake (chocolate with cookies and cream filling) with some random candies stuck all over it. Although he pulled out his candyland game board and pointed at all the things he has to have on his cake. Hopefully I can get away with just random candies.

And today is DH's birthday. I made a rum cake and a Key Lime pie, only I had to use regular/Persian limes 'cause key limes were not available.

Again with the DC Cupcakes, Leah? You really are a glutton for punishment. LOL
I'm trying to come up with a design for my daughter's birthday. She'll be 22 and has no ideas about design or flavors. All I've got is that she prefers fondant as an accent and not covering the entire cake.

My Key Lime pie recipe involves Cool Whip and pudding. icon_smile.gif I can never get meringue to not weep. Got any tips for that?

Working on a torso shaped cake, that has an open heart surgery incision.
Just posted a question about what color to use for the incision.

umm leah? can i have a slice of that keylime pie? PLLEEEZZEE?? icon_biggrin.gif

I am working on recipes, MIL got out her grandmothers and mothers cookbooks, and all their handmade recipes. I will get the books tomorrow, I am borrowing them. So, tonight i am working on a database for recording them and quick access. I will be entering LOTS of recipes tomorrow. Laptop is charged and rearing to go.

Apparently MIL's mom was a hobby baker and sold tons of cakes, breads, doughnuts, and pies. These books are supposed to have her annotations in them!!

I feel like harry potter getting prof. snapes potion book!! icon_biggrin.gif

I didn't put meringue on the Key Lime pie. Buuuttt . . . use meringue powder and make it up according to the recipe on the container. Then, put it on the pie, put it all the way to the edge and then, because it's not egg whites, you can just torch it and not put it into the oven.

Weeping happens when heat hits the albumen in the egg whites, it contracts and releases water. There's a delicate and sensitive balance between the amount of heat and the egg whites. Use meringue powder and you eliminate the problem.

Tonight is quiet--stocked up on supplies for a busy weekend. I have CupcakeCamp OC on Sunday.

Tomorrow is a baking day--Triple Chocolate Espresso cuppies w/Bailey's Buttercream frosting, Raspberry-Lemonade cuppies w/Raspberry Buttercream and possibly 2 small cakes.

It's my BiL's bday but we are going out to breakfast so a cake isn't mandatory.

We are having our friend that is revamping the DH's website over for dinner & a meeting. She's giving us a AWESOME deal on the design work so I'm thinking a thank-you cake is in order.

ARGH!! It's like watching a train wreck. You just can't look away.

The DC girls just had something in their oven on fire. As in flames shooting out of the oven.

They are #@&^% stupid.

Photo things I got/learned about today:
1.bought seemless paper background from a biggs camera store also available online via B&H photography.

2. bought two desk lamps to use for lighting

3. Bought TRUE WHITE "hot light" light bulbs from photo store

4. to make a reflector crunch up foil then smooth out and glue to cardboard

5. need to buy photographers white umbrella to "shoot through" (diffuse light)

6. need a more expensive/better camera which is not going to happen right now but when I am ready the photographers stores sell used ones since the pros tend to upgrade every two years to keep up with improved technology. So now I know where to go to get a mage camera at not so mega price.

light cake from side to create shadows then use reflector or light to backfill from other side in order to catch detail.

This is my very first post here on CC. I've been following ya'll for several weeks and have learned tons.

I just started doing cakes recently in order to be able to do the cakes for 2 family baby showers. In practicing for those, I've discovered that I really enjoy caking.

Tonight I am working on a luau themed cake for a dear family friend who is turning 5 years old. I've gotten lots of inspiration ideas from the galleries here, and lots of tips from the forums.

I look forward to learning so much more.

Hi, I'm working on a cars themed birthday cake for a friend's son. i accidentally left the cream cheese blocks (sealed still) for about 5 hours now. yikes...who knew having a 2 year old and being a single parent for the weekend would take so much time?! icon_smile.gif

Does anyone know if the cream cheese will still be ok to make frosting? I'm afraid to make people sick, but all the sites on the internet say it's ok?!

Please help...I guess I can work gum paste tonight, then frost tomorrow after going to the store if it's bad.

Well I did make a cake today it just wasn't a decorated one though. I got fresh raspberries yesterday so after work today I made a Raspberry Crumb Cake & it is delicious!
I'am new here & I can't tell you how much I enjoy this site the amount of talent here boggles my mind.
I admittedly haven't done many cakes so anything I read here is soaked up like a sponge! Thanks for sharing everyone. thumbs_up.gif

Finishing up a baby shower cake and baking a 50th bday cake. I kept trying not to listen to dc cupcakes but the shear stupidity amazes me. How can they fight like that in front of customers? Like Leah said it's like a train wreck!

I have 2 wedding cakes with wedding cupcakes for tomorrow plus baby shower for Sunday. Am now watching DC cupcakes and it is so bad but I can't look away. I am so excited only 1 1/2 weeks until ICES. It's my first time, plus DH is coming, plus no kids, plus no cakes, plus seeing good friends, and SD is where DH and I met and where I went to college.

There are a number of DIY tutorials online for making your own "light box". You can make a frame from PVC pipe that holds muslin draping. If you light it from the top of side w/the high intensity lamps the fabic acts as a soft filter.

no baking tonight; working on a keepsake letter for my future-daughter-in-law (wedding is next Saturday and yes, I'm doing the cake!). I'm taking her out to lunch tomorrow and bought her some nice earrings; just want to welcome her into the family like I would've wanted to (be welcomed). Even though it's a happy time, it's a sad / grieving time as our oldest moves definitely into his new life and this "stage" is finished.

sigh. have a good weekend everyone! Oh, my SPS is already on the UPS truck and I ordered it this afternoon!
