My Agbay is tearing my cake tier to shreds. Huge chunks are coming off of the cake. I was going to be done with all my baking tonight, but now I have to rebake my 10" round
Am I doing something wrong?
are you moving the Agbay in a side to side motion, or just pusing it through?
also, how long have you had your agbay? could it be time for a new blade?
lastly, is it a carrot cake or something with larger pieces that might be contributing to the tearing?
I partially freeze mine before leveling, that seems to have taken care of the problem for me...I used to stop if it seemed like a piece was going to break off, turn the cake around and carefully cut in from where that bad side was....hope that makes sense.
I am doing a side to side motion. The cakes were completly cool but not frozen at all. They are just plain pineapple cakes with no chuncks. The blade is brand new. I just got it last week.

weird cuz mine cuts through sooooo smoothly. Even my cakes with chocolate chips in. Sorry this is happening
I too am sorry this is happening. I just got my Agbay about 3 weeks ago and I am in love. Hopefully you can figure it out.
I was looking into these but couldn't find a price.. would anyone mind telling me about how much these cost?

Are you using the correct side of the blade? It's hard to imagine it could even do that! Did you buy it directly from Agbay? If so, call them. They are extremely friendly and can best figure out what's going on.
I cannot even imagine this happening either. My Agbay is the best thing that I have ever purchased and I had success from the first day I used it. I hope you find out what you are doing wrong so that you can enjoy using it like the rest of us.
Could pieces of pineapple be causing your problem? You said there's no chunks, but sometimes pineapple is a little stringy.
That happens to be sometimes with my chocolate cake because it is so moist. I have found freezing it a little helps with this issue.
also keep the blade clean. i always find the blade at the top ( i have the 2 blade one) that cuts the very top off, if it gets gunked up with moist sticky cake tops it wont cut well. so i slide it all to one side and use the blade cleaner then swipe it back to the other side so i can clean the other side of the blade. Ive used it on carrot cake and it has cut through nuts and raisins with no problem, as long as its clean.
I put the remaining tiers in the freezer for about 30 minutes and seemed to fix the problem.
The down side is I have to level the 16" tier tonight and that won't fit in the freezer. I am going to try to chill in the fridge for at least an hour before I cut it. The last thing I want to do is rebake that tier.
Take the 16" tier out of the pan, wrap it in plastic film and put it back in the pan. Now you can put it into the freezer sideways. Does that help?

Leah_S...where was that gem of a tip two weeks ago!! I cut my 16" cake in half so that I could freeze it. It worked ok, but would have much happier if I hadnt had to cut it. Thanks for the idea for next time!!
