How do you normally put filling in your cupcakes? I have a pastry tip from Williams Sonoma that injects filling, which I normally use. It's very time consuming and doesn't work well. I noticed on Cupcake Wars, they cut out the middle with a small circular object, and it lifts out the center of the cupcake. What is that they are using? Thanks for your help!
They are using an apple corer. I just recently ordered this :http://www.foodnetworkstore.com/p-290785-0-_Chicago-Metallic-Cupcake-Plunger.aspx?Ntt%3dcupcakes%26Ntx%3dmode+matchall%26Ns%3dSortByAll%7c1%7c%7cSubClass%7c%7cBrandName%7c%7cProductGroupName%7c%7cPrice%7c%7cColor%26Nty%3d1%26Ntk%3dAll
It is a cupcake plunger.
Yes, its an apple corer... Very nice, speeds things up like you wouldnt believe!! You can purchase one just about anywhere, meijers or wal-mart etc...
i have both, the filling tip and the apple corer, and i actually like the tip better . but the corer does give a much cleaner appearance when bitten into.

I just use a large star tip, plunge it into the top of the cupcake, and squirt in some filling. Takes me about 3 seconds per cupcake.
I use a bismark tip. It's long and tapered and it goes right on in. Fills cupcakes fast!
I've had problems getting certain types of fillings to go through the tip so I just got an apple corer.
I just use a large round plain tip, poke it in the cupcake and it will come right out. Very fast too!

I have the long bismark tip, found it time consuming and the tip gets clogged. I now use a bubble tea straw - poke a hole in the middle, put my #7 tip in and fill. Works great and it's quick!!
I prefer the star tip too...
I used to use the bismark tip but had problems with clogging when using certain fillings (I used to use an apple corer in those cases), and one day I couldn't find it so I used a reg ol star tip and it worked perfectly, much better than the bismark tip or the apple corer. I don't have clogging issues now and I'm not throwing away the centers of cupcakes, which I find a waste. Plus when I cut it open to see the amount of filling, it was the perfect amount to me... and I LOVE filling.
With the apple corer, I feel like I have to do double the work because I have to go around cutting the cores out, then go back with a pastry bag to fill. Too much work.
