1) It was gray. Need I say more? No, but I will.
2) The cake didn't come out of the pan the right way so I had to construct some of the sides of the square one with icing.
3) I almost dropped the cake when I put the top tiers on. It made the very top one a little bit crooked. I thought it would help when I put the flowers on.
4) The white flowers didn't complement the cake at all.
5) I'd forgotten to put the supports in the top tier for the flowers so when I put them on the cake, it cracked the buttercream.
7) The flowers the bride had assembled for the top of the cake had all wilted and turned brown so I had to completely redo the flowers for that one.
icon_cool.gif After I redid the flowers for the top I realized it was very disproportionate for the cake so I had to redo it AGAIN.

The whole time I'm doing this the staff at the venue are sitting around doing things and watching us. It was very awkward.

This wasn't a huge disaster but it was a whole lot of little things. I guess it turned out alright but so many things went wrong that I was extremely frustrated. I hope the bride liked it.

Well, I think that you did a nice save on the cake. I have had those days that nothing goes right and yet the end product ended up looking fine and no one was any wiser. You can't help what the bride ordered as far as colors go. Was she happy with it? That is what counts. Also to reassure you, you are not the only one that feels the awkwardness when people are watching you do something like a cake. It is not your fault either that her flower arrangement wilted. I know that some people think that if something is off that it is your fault, but if you just act like you are the one saving the day doing what you are doing they will think you are too. Just a little encouragement. It is easier to say then do though. I know that first hand. Just keep it up. You are doing fine.

Ok, am I weird that I totally love the color of the cake? White gets so boring for wedding cakes. I love when brides choose something different that the typical colors. I think it's a really pretty cake!

It looks very clean and pretty! If the bride was happy that's all that matters.

I don't think the colors go that well together either but they don't clash...just a little off but not that noticeably to the untrained eye. The colors weren't your choice so that's not your problem - it's the bride's choice.

I would have HATED people watch my frustration! I haven't done a wedding cake yet but will be doing one soon. Thanks for the insight in how many little things can go wrong. Sorry it had to happen but in the end you made a lovely cake.

LOVE THE CAKE !! It doesnt look grey!! The flowers look like avalance or escimo roses, which are kind of a butter or cream color and they make white cakes look grey. But I think the cake is gorgeous. and nice save all the way around !!

Actually, I really like the color of the cake. The cake itself looks very pretty. I like the dotted swiss look.

The flowers on top are much too big for the cake (I have a picture in my gallery that looks about the same). I didn't like the proportion on mine either, but everyone else thought it was just right.

I think you're right that the white roses don't do much for the cake. Some kind of blue flower would have been prettier.

In the end, though, it's a beautiful cake! Most people just see a fabulous looking cake and don't focus on the details like we do. You should be very proud of it.

I really like the colours too - not entirely grey looking, although when I started reading the thread when you said that it was grey I actually thought awesome. I agree, white gets so boring!

You see, I was not the only one that liked your cake. While I may not have chosen those colors you did a great job. I don't think that white cakes are boring, but I do like Variety also and I like colors in there in someway. Whether it is an accent color like in flowers being added or just a few of the decorations. Totally White all the way can be elegant if done right, but White, all white and nothing but white all the time would be totally boring, I agree. Keep it up and Keep going.

Wow, I'm blown away by you ladies. Thank you so much for the pat on the shoulder. I was needing it. Personally, I don't think cakes always need to be white but I just wasn't a fan of the gray. I think this picture makes it look better than it did, but thank you all a hundred times over.

I'm also glad to know that I'm not the only one who hates having people watch her while she assembles a cake. It's so nerve wracking! I'm going to check out sps so maybe I don't have to do that onsite any more.
