Gracious...so anyway I'm not taking any orders currently, until I find out what is going on with my husband's possible job relocation. So I'm telling customers this, and then referring them to a good cake artist friend in the area.
Got a call today...we didn't discuss the design she wanted and certainly did not discuss price. I just explained that I'm not taking orders for right now and referred her to my friend.
She called my friend, and when my friend quoted her for a 3D car cake, she said "That's not what the OTHER lady quoted." My friend said "Oh? What did she charge you?" The lady claimed a really cheap price for a sculpted cake and of course my friend knew she was totally bluffing. She informed the lady "Sorry, but I know that the price you just told me is her BASIC pricing....not 3D." (Which I had not brought up ANY pricing in the phone call, and my 3D pricing on my website is plainly higher than what the lady tried to get out of my friend.)
Don't people have any ethics or morals anymore? Sheesh.
it would seem that some evil villan has kidnapped all the morals and ethics in the world. They are being held hostage somewhere and no one, especially parents, are willing to fight for them !! I am not that old, and I can say that this new generation is missing basic morals, ethics and common sense!!
Im only 21 and i wasn't raised to treat people like that!
Guess she saw the chance of getting a cheaper cake and felt the benefits outweighed the drawbacks!
There are plenty of creeps in the world regardess of how old they are. When I was a manager at a department store 15+ years ago our nastiest customer who demanded the most attention and tried to swindle you out of the most discounts was a heinous old lady (about 75+ I'd say). She'd look you in the eye and outright lie about what a different salesperson had told her to try to get them into trouble and have you give her discounts to apologize. I just use her as an example because I was telling my daughter about her the other day...There are also a lot of creeps in the nursing home where my inlaws live. My MIL tells me about some of the nasty old ladies who live there who try to whack you with thier walkers so they can get to the salad bar first and steal all the strawberries. 
Totally frustrating when people don't have any moral ethics. It makes it hard for the rest of us to always assume the best about people.
On another note... Kitagirl, sorry that you are having to go through the stress of living in limbo. I hope it all works out well for you, and soon.
I try to think of stuff like this as, "Thanks for the warning!" Now you and friend know not to allow her to be a customer. No late payment hassle, no last minute order change hassle, no "Wahhh!! I want my money back!" hassle.
I tell myself, "Whoo! That was a close call with a mess of trouble!" LOL
That's really sad and pathetic...
what some people would do for a discount is brutal and I wouldn't be able to do it, I would feel to guilty...

It's Reality TV Mentality--backstabbing, manipulation, underhandedness and deceit are rewarded. People are encouraged to do whatever it takes to get their way. And win the prize. Discretion is sorely lacking.

Oh, you should see the parade of walkers that starts about half an hour before mealtimes. They congregate at the door of the dining room milling around behind the ropes until the staff opens the dining room,and it's a stampede to get in there. My MIL says that this woman races to the salad bar, then whips her walker in front of the fruit bowl like a barricade so that nobody else can get to it. She then proceeds to pick out all the strawberries in the fruit salad. If there are no strawberries she takes all the grapes. My MIL doesn't even like strawberries that much, but it pisses her off, so she tries to get there first to make a big deal about taking some. She refers to this woman as "the strawberry thief" and all the other people there mutter about her, but nobody will tell her to cut it out.
Nastiness and selfishness isn't limited to the younger generation 
Costumeczar -- I totally get what your MIL is saying. I work at a rehab/nursing facility and witness it daily. We had to put chains up at a certain height to block them from coming through the line too early. They were stealing food and picking through the fruit like their lives depended on it. I've seen first hand someone trying to ram the other with their motorized scooter when they took the last cookie and then acted like they had no idea.
Now imagine that their all nuns and priest and it makes it funnier.
I used to work in the bakery for a Steak House and I had a regular little old lady,maybe a hundred pounds, that insisted she was a diabetic but every time she came in she cleared my bakery bar and stuffed her plastic baggies full and walked out with her supper size purse..by the time she left I know her purse was almost as heavy as she was.
I worked as the activity director in a nursing home for 4 yrs (in the business office 2 before that) and the stories you guys are telling are so funny! There was one lady that would come out to lunch at like 10:30 am and if someone was sitting in *HER* chair playing cards or having coffee with a friend she would come unglued! Yep, she had a cane and used it! It was sad and funny at the same time! Most of the other little oldies would just go with the flow and move someplace else, but when any of the spicier ones would confront her about it? WATCH OUT!!!
My dog Schatzie went to work with me every day and sat with the residents. There was one little lady - and this is a SWEET story - that Schatzie would sit with forever. Schatzie knew she was coming before her wheelchair rounded the corner somehow. Schatzie would wait for her to come at the same time every day because she ALWAYS came to see Schatzie. When this lady passed away, Schatzie actually started to get sick. I ended up taking her to the vet and he said she was upset because of this lady's death. There was also a man that had one of those wheeled walkers with the seat on it. He took Schatzie around the building sitting on his walker seat every day. He loved being with Schatzie. When I left the nursing home, a lot of the residents cried. I'm still trying to figure out if it was ME they were gonna miss or Schatzie!!!!

Wow, every day I get a new laugh from you guys! Watch out for those old ladies! 
I work in the mall, and there is a group of older ladies that are there everyday, and they HAVE to have THEIR table in the corner. So if someone else is sitting there they sit close by and stare at them. As soon as they get up the walker race to that table is on. Hilarious
I've already decided what type of crazy I'll be when I'm old and senile! I sing for weddings, funerals, musicals, etc., so I'm gonna be the crazy lady wheeling herself up and down the hall singing (in a voice that hasn't aged well!) at the top of my lungs. I'll also be the one with the bruises from getting whacked over the head by the old people that just want some peace and quiet! I'm cool with it!
I'm going to be like the crazy lady in the Simpsons who goes out and thorws cats at kids who get on her lawn.

When I supplied cookies to the dealership where my husband works, he'd tell me stories about women who would fill their purse with my cookies, explaining with a sweet little old lady smile how much the GRANDCHILDREN loved them!
Story that made me smile REAL big: After I stopped doing those cookies, a lady was filling her purse with the replacements and an employee said, "You DO know those aren't the same cookies, right?" The lady stopped. Employee said, "Yeah ... the woman who made them got so busy she had to cancel our contract so those are Kroger cookies."
The lady started taking the cookies OUT of her purse and putting them back!
Gotta love the OLD ladies! (The ones who are much older than I am.)
My sister and I attended a banquet a few years ago. The woman sitting next to my sister proceeded to empty the contents of her plate into plastic bags in her purse for her son-in-law who was arriving by plane soon, and would be hungry! My sister and I were uncontrollably laughing, and almost died when the lady asked if she could take the uneaten chicken off my siste's plate, too!
I'm going to be the old lady that forces you to eat the candy from her purse of dish tray. The nasty candy that's older than dirt with pieces of lint and buttons mixed in and stuck to it.
I'll even make them feel guilty if they don't try some.
My MIL tries to get us to eat the cake that I gave them months ago and she froze until it's now an unrecognizable petrified substance. I went over to their apartment in March and she still had cookies that I'd made the first week of December out. I told her to throw them out and she said "They're still good." Uh no, they're not.
Actually, now that I think about it, she hoards ice cream sandwiches from the dining room, by putting them in the pocket of her walker, then gives them to my kids. They're not complaining.
