I am to make a Batman themed cake and I have already planned out. It is to be a sheet cake with fondant buildings along the sides of the cake. But one part I would love to be able to put the batman symbol standing upright in the middle of the cake. I would have the yellow oval in the middle of the cake and insert the bat symbol upright. It is due Sunday and I don't have a lot of $$$ to spend on silicone stuff to make my own mold even if I had something to make the mold of. So does anyone have any ideas? I was hoping to do it out of sugar but have no clue as to what i can use to make a mold. All I have is a drawing of the batman symbol. Please help I am trying to get my name out there and start my little bakery. Yes I am very new to this. Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advanced
Roll out your fondant with tylose mix or colored gum paste....or pastilage... get a really sharpe craft knife and cut it out by hand... lay it out to dry..... not as hard as you think...
I figured out a way to make a gumpaste plaque with an image on it that worked really well. Roll out your gumpaste about 1/4" thick. Make it a similar color to the image, in your case black like the bat. Print out on your computer a regular paper image of the bat. (The directions I found said edible image, but I didn't have an edible image printer, so I did it on my plain old HP. It worked beautifully.) Cut around it carefully. I brushed a thin layer of piping gel on the back of the paper and laid it on the gumpaste. Use an exacto knife to cut around the image. Allow it to dry several days. If you need it to stand up you can insert a wooden skewer or toothpick into the bottom edge while it is still soft, then just insert that into your yellow oval when it's time. I always make 2 when I do these just in case I drop one and break it. They're thicker than flower petals, but still breakable and since they take days to dry, I like to be safe rather than sorry. Hope that wasn't too confusing or intimidating. It really is very easy.
Chocolate? It would be simple enough to put the drawing or print out under a piece of parchment paper. Melt the black chocolate first and put in decorating bag. Outline all black areas then fill in. Next, you could do the same with yellow. Just an idea. Best of luck!
