This is a picture of my 1st wedding cake (and last!) While I am glad I got to the end , I couldn't go through all the stress and worry again. I only agreed to do it at the request of my daughter in honour of the novelty birthday cakes I made for her and her siblings while they were growing up.
Thanks to all the experts who helped me along the way with advice -I couldn't have made it without you all thumbs_up.gif

Thank you so much for your kind comment. If the cake pic was enlarged you would probably see quite a few dents and nail indents icon_smile.gif I was just so relieved to get it to the venue intact and the final sugar flower display wasn't really what I had planned.I had invisaged a trailing display and chickened out at the last minute even though I had made all the trailing stems etc. I was just afraid that they might fall off so I clipped them and arranged into a posy and mounted them in a dome of flower paste stuck to a 3" cake board. I have to give credit to Alan Dunns "cake decoraters bible" his instructions in the book are fantastic. I had never painted with layers of sugar dust before andI was very pleased the way my rose leaves turned out Ii really enjoyed making all the flowers etc. I think I just took on too much I made 6 satin rose topiaries for the church windows and brought them to the reception you can just see them behind the cake ,so my advice to all MOB'S---DON'T say yes to everything!!!

You are all so encouraging (I'll have to keep my feet on the ground!) don't think my hubby would like me to do this full time, the housework was neglected as well as himself icon_lol.gif I have to give credit to Alan Dunns decorators bible. It was such an inspiration and with great instructions. I feel I'm bragging now but I am attaching a photo of the flowers/folage I made.As I said I wasn't happy with the final arrangement but these things keep us humble don't they? I totally agree with the sentiments at the bottom ot Kansalauras comments.

Everything about this cake is BEAUTIFUL! My kids have been asking me for years to make their wedding cakes so I will take your advice about not agreeing to everything. They are all adults now so I might be in your position soon. I'm afraid I've raised cake snobs so nothing but Mom's cake will do! I bet even as a bride your daughter was proud to say "my Mom made the cake"! Cake is great but a cake made with love is even better!

I agree with what everyone else said. The cake is GORGEOUS!!! If I got that cake at my wedding I would be sooooo happy and giddy.

I only hope to someday get the skills and the chance to do a wedding cake

Thankyou,
just make sure you make all fruit as you can do it well in advance and decorate in advance thumbs_up.gif . I was talked into all different flavours so couldnt b.c and fondant until a few days before wedding.I baked the cakes a few weeks before and froze them before decorating.
Mind you I was crafty I baked the largest 12" layer as fruit (as there are folk who like fruit ) and also it was very strong to take the other layers. At least I got that one out of the way 1st. It is fairy quick and easy to marzipan and fondant ice and you have no risk of a bulge int the middle icon_biggrin.gif
