Just tell him it didn't work right so you bought another one. Honesty is the best policy... at least t hat's what they taught me in grade school... LOL. Make sure you tell him how much you LOVE LOVE LOVE the of his gift... I'm sure he'll be fine.

Now I just use a long serrated knife to cut my cakes in 1/2. It takes a few times to get the feel for it, but it's quick, easy, and my knif ecost $20 at the kicthen supply store. WAY cheaper than an Agbay.

That's what he caught me using too. And scolded me for it, saying he gave me a professional leveler. Until I get the Agbay, I'm using a serrated knife.

Well, no he didn't. Wilton are not *professional* products. They are hobbyist products.

I'm so glad I saw this thread, thank you everyone for all the advice. I had a large Wilton leveler in my watch items on Ebay, ready to buy on pay day thinking it would be the answer to all my leveling worries. You have saved me some hard earned cash and I will definitely try the boards in a cake tin trick mentioned on this thread instead. Thank you again!! icon_biggrin.gif

Oops, I didn't notice this was an old thread with so many pages, had to read more carefully to find out what the cake board trick was. icon_biggrin.gif

I have that lever, but I only use it for a rough cut then when I tort I use stiffened buttercrem to level the tier. Works like a dream.

If it is rough, then you have to use stiffened buttercream to level it, I would hardly say it works like a dream...Though I would say my Agbay works like a dream, once it is set. thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

What do you know? I have been using the cheaper Wilton leveler, recenty I was supposed to bake a 4 tiered wedding cake, so I wanted to be perfect! So I went and purchased the large
Wilton leveler, although expensive, so it will be perfect....not only it's not worth the price, it does not work, a waste of time and money. I was really dissappointed with it. Dont' buy it!

The WORST product I have ever bought was that Wilton Leveler! It has NEVER cut a straight line, EVER. I hate it.

Add me to the ranks of Wilton Leveler Haters. I bent mine in half and threw it away. Complete waste of a 40% off coupon.

I used the Agbay at a cake decorating class (first time ever making a decorated cake and never using a leveler before) and decided then and there I had to have one, I looked at others at Micheal's and couldn't believe how cheap looking they were, so I convinced my husband to get it for me and I am soooo happy!!! It's worth every penny! May not be cheap, but totally worth it!

My local cake store sells the Fat Daddios leveler. Anyone here use this and like it? I bought the Wilton one and was appalled that they even tried to market that thing! I took it back the next day and got my money back. I don't do enough cakes to invest in an Agabay.

I am so glad that I am not the only with an uneven cake after I use the Wilton leveler. It was driving me crazy.I like the idea with the cake board I am going to try it on my next cake.I saw something online a few weeks ago . It looked like a 14'x 4' cake pan but there were slits in that u would put your cake in and then insert your knife in the slit. You would then cut straight across ,then do the same on the other side. You would remove the cake and you just need to cut the small part in the middle that was not cut.But I can't find the website again . Has anyone seen this item?

I've got one more credit card payment to make from a cake trip I took at the end of May, then I'm buying the Agbay. I have both Wilton levelers and while the wire works okay for a smaller cake, the bending blade leveler sucks! It's probably the product from Wilton that I'm most disappointed with.

I'm going for broke and buying the 20" double bladed unit.

Leah_s, when you said you bought a second Agbay to level the top of your cake, did you mean before you apply the frosting or after you've applied the frosting? If it's after, how are you able to remove the frosting without it being too messy?

Thanks!

I don't like the Wilton leveler either!! The wire one is ok for small cakes up to 10" but forget the larger one. I too am going to get the agbay leveler, maybe for Christmas??? Hey Santa!
