Okay, 'fess up... Does anyone use Wilton's regularly to cover cakes?

I think I used Wilton on my very first fondant cake... Then I started making Marshmallow Fondant (MMF) because it was such a cost savings. But the MMF was inconsistent on how it turned out. And I found it very hard to roll out or color....

I've since started making Michele Foster's Delicious Fondant (MFF). I like this one best thus far. But I'm wondering, as business picks up, if I'll be able to keep making ALL of the fondant I use.

I'm considering ordering some other pre-made brand like Satin Ice or Fondarific.... But I'd like to see what everyone else is happy with before I pay to ship the stuff to Alaska!

Thanks,
Tricia

I've tried Wilton, MMF, and MFF. I like MFF by far the most! Wilton is horrible and had problems with MMF. I personally have not used any other store fondant. I'm sure more people will chime in with their store favs shortly.

I used it for my first cake in class, I was pregnant and the smell of it ( with gum tex added ) made me sick!!! I've never bought it since!
I love the fondant recipe in the Wilton yearbook.
I make it whatever flavor I like and so far it has never given me problems.
I have also made and like MMF, but sometimes it doesn't seem to turn out as well. I think I read on here it depends on the brand of marshmellows and how long it takes to melt them. I think It was no more than 90 sec or it makes it harder to use/roll.
For buying fondant I get McCall's Easyice. I love the smell of it but I have only tried red and black, and It works great.
But I am far from being an expert so I'd like to hear what everyone else likes to

I use Satin Ice. I have not had problems with it like others have stated. I do not get consistent results with MMF. I have tried pettinice and fondarific. They both taste great, but too soft for me and much more pricier IMHO. I only use Wilton's if I have to, but it's not that bad though.

I only use Jennifer Dontz's semi-homemade fondant using her recommended fondant or with FondX. I love it.

I use Michele Foster's fondant. I absolutely HATE marshmallow fondant. I have made it several times using different recipes and I have never had good results. I just don't think it's a very good "quality" fondant. I LOVE MFF. It taste wonderful and for workability it would be hard to beat. I make several batches a week and try to have it on hand always. I ran out the other day and didn't have enough to cover my son's birthday cake. I made a batch and didn't have time for it to rest for 6 hours. I took the risk and used it anyway. I was able to allow it to rest for about 4 1/2 hours and I didn't have any problems with it. It may have been a little stretchier than normal but I didn't have any problems with it. It gets a little tiring making so much of it each week but it's worth the effort. I am spoiled to how easy it is to work with thumbs_up.gif

I was using Satin Ice until I started having problems with it cracking and elephant skin. I switched to Fondx and LOVE it! Great taste too icon_smile.gif

MMF...make my own. Not sure I could keep up with it if I had more than 3 cakes a week but for now I do my own. I don't use Wilton, don't like the taste or the way it works for me. I don't have any issues with MMF..works like a dream for me almost every time and I can afford it much easier. HOWEVER, I use fondarific for brilliant colors or when I have to have black or red in large amounts.
