Does anyone know how to use real ribbon on butter cream, without having it show grease stains?
Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated!
First put a waxed paper ribbon cut to slightly narrower than the satin one on the cake and then apply the satin one over the paper with royal icing.
Thanks so much! I can't wait to try it! I guess I'll have to do a couple of test runs before I try it on my son's wedding cake!
Thanks, tons!
I have used ribbon on buttercream twice and both times I just took the entire length of the ribbon I needed and covered it in Crisco. I put a little Crisco on my thumb and forefinger and ran it down the length of the ribbon until the entire ribbon was covered with it but absolutely no extra Crisco left on it.
It may darken the ribbon a bit (which in my case didn't matter) but it doesn't show grease because it already has the Crisco on it. I just found it darkened the ribbon a bit and made it kinda shiny. I don't know if this would work for ribbon that is supposed to be light in color...
