I am doing a family reunion cake for the weekend that will be two tiers with a tree going down the cake. I was going to make the tree by piping ganache but then I found out the family reunion is outside in the heat. I was worried the ganache would melt right off. What's the best way for me to make the tree now? I'm thinking either fondant or brown icing. Thanks for any advice you can offer!

On Amazing Wedding Cakes, Mike McCreary used fondant shaped into a cone, and cut like half-inch slits at at upward angle all over it

I think, if your event is going to be outside, you would want to go with either fondant or gum paste or 50/50 (half fondant/half gumpaste) for your tree. This way you can maneuver thte tree coming down the sides if your cake anyway you want too. It should look just as good as your ganache would have. HTH

Thanks for the suggestions! Think I will go with the 50/50 mix.
