Strange situation. My brother is getting married next June, and they've asked me to make their cake. I'm all for it and excited about the opportunity. The issue I'm seeing right now is, I'm also the best man! I'm sitting here trying to work on the logistics in my head of delivering and assembling the cake ahead of time and being in the wedding as well. Am I stressing too much or is this going to present some problems?

I did my sister's cake for her wedding this year and I was maid of honour. It is doable ( is that even a word???)....it just takes a bit of planning. Hers was morning wedding and the venue allowed me to store the cake overnight in a secure room and their staff lifted it onto the cake table. Maybe your venue will allow something similar.

Maybe they can choose their design not to be too intricate. Sis's own was simple enough and I was able to make the flowers way in advance.

I think it should be fine as long as you plan things out. How big is the cake? Can you fully stack it? If yes then that's easy. Is it fondant or buttercream? If it is buttercream, you could make it ahead, stack and decorate it. Fondant you have to cover and decorate on Thursday. How far from the venue and your house (assuming that's where you store the cake)? I made my friend's wedding cake once and I was the bridemaid. Also I have to drive 3 hours where the wedding took place. I finish everything Thursday night and drove there on Friday, refridgerated at my friend's house and on Saturday afternoon the bride's brother deliver for me. It works out fine but that's a small wedding. It's only 75 people.

Glad to hear it's doable. I think they're planning an outdoor wedding and reception, which means I'll probably insist on fondant. As for size, the bride said she's planning on inviting 200 people, but she only expects 150 so I'm thinking 3 or 4 tiers like 12-10-8-6 or 10-8-6. Not 100% sure on that yet. The drive is 2 hours, but I may go down a few days early and do a lot of the work at my Dad's house instead to help alleviate transportation issues.

Could you make a fake display and just do sheets or cupcakes? They styrofoam would travel better than real cake, and you wouldn't have timing issues with when to assemble, etc. You could even do that a day or two ahead since you wouldn't have to worry about the cake drying out or anything. That would take some of the stress out of it for you.

I guess I could do dummy cakes, but I think I'd much rather do real cakes. I'm sure they'll want the traditional cutting into the cake and smashing it on each other pics.

I'm sure you can manage the real thing once you don't get too smashed at the bachelor party icon_smile.gif

I just did a cake for our best friend's wedding, where I was also the officiant. It was really no big issue...the cake was finished the day before, and I delivered it assembled. All went well!
