For anyone looking for a place to go after the hurricane, I am located in shreveport La. The people of our community are opening their homes, and many shelters for victums of Katrina. The schools have opened their arms for children from new orleans and surrounding areas. Please spread the word. Let people know that we are praying for them and will do anything to help them through this dissaster. We are going to miss Cajun Country, (new orleans). Everyones heart is breaking in Louisiana.

I must say that after reading your post I feel honored to be a part of a message board that really cares about other people.
I went to New Orleans a few years back with some friends and I'm truly upset that it will never be the same.

Also, our boy scout is collecting bottled water and canned foods and anything else to help the victims and the workers during this hurtful time. Our home is open to anyone in need too. We live in Cleveland, MS

sheilaaaway, i live in Ga. i know how much this devistaing circumstance must affect you all. my heart goes out to all of the people who have been at loss due to karina. espically the ones with lives lost. my best friend use to live there in shreveport, up until the first of the year. they moved to livingston, la. i have not been able to get ahold of her since all of this has gone on. do you know to what affect livingston was affeced? i have not been able to find any info .

My city as well is doing all it can to help there are shelters set up all over town to take in the people of LA. I am in central TX about 4-5 hours from LA. My neighborhood association and the surrounding schools are getting together to send food and blankets and money to LA.

jjbrink: livingston is fine, some strong storms and wind hit down. Im sure your friend is ok, as ok as a fellow louisiana citizen can be. Im sure she/he is busy with everything going on.

And again I want to express the deep sympothy we feel for the lose in New Orleans. So many of us can remember walking down the streets that now look as if they were always part of the ocean waters.

Is anyone from diamondhead? I booked a hotel there for next week. Im pretty sure it is gone. It is the diamondhead ramada. It was in the middle of the eye of katrina.

God Bless You All!!! We are originally from Baton Rouge, and Lafayette. We are going over there tomorrow night to help with the clean up. I am bringing contributions of clothes, and toiletries. I am hoping that all of you that are able, contribute something. Even if it only clothes that you can no longer wear. I will be going to Dollar General tonight to buy toothbrushes and toothpaste and dropping them off in Lafayette at the Salvation Army.

Please pray for these people. They have lost EVERYTHING. Jobs, houses, and memories have been washed away.

I live in Livingston parish Thankfully we came out okay. I am concerned about my brothers house though he lives in LaPlace which is near N.O. he also works for the N.O. airport. Thankfully they were able to get out safely. They have not yet returned home to see the damage. my neighbor has some friends staying with her from St. Bernard parish you can only imagine their devastation she is 7mths pregnant and is looking at pics of her home with water to the roof. We still have alot of power and phone lines out around us. Schools still not in do to fallen trees , no electricity, and also some being used as shelters. The few gas stations that do have gas have lines 2 miles long. I live in a new neighborhood so thankfully they are no large trees! A friend of mine just called she is soo worried her husband is in the national guard right now he is in the superdome please pray for his safety.

I have still been unable to contact my friends in Lafayette and Baton Rouge. I am a volunteer with the Red Cross Diaster Services. If you don't know where to donate your time or money, they are always a good place. I lived in Louisiana for several years and graduated from LSU. Louisiana and her people are dear to my heart.

meme: i will be praying for your friend's husband in the superdome. Yesterday a man jumped off of the superdome to his death. No one is sure why but im sure that it has something to do with the condiditions inside. They have over 25 bathrooms and there all backedup, no food or water.

Something as small as watch the saints play past games on tv, at their home statuim is tear jerking. I was watching the news this morning and saw people jumping from rooftops with axes, there we people in their atticks traped, with only 1-5 inches of breathing room at the eaves of the roof. It breaks my heart, but I cant stop watch to see whats happening.

i feel so helpless as i watch the news and see the people coming up from out of the water with nowhere to go. people who have not eaten or had anything to drink in 2 days now.
i know someone posted that the red cross would be the place to send money or donations. do they take clothes and items or just money. and would this in fact be where i would need to send what i could?

I know that here in my area, the red cross along with several churches are taking anything they can get, clothing, food, snacks, shoes, toilitries, and even colors and coloring books for children. As far as i know they are seting up donation truchs in every state. i would go to the red cross web site to see. If you would like you could send them to me and I could take them to lsu, thats were the red cross is set up. Im sure along with every state you state is going to do what it can to help. Oh im watching the news, they are asking for underwear and socks they are having a short.


Today in my parish, schools opened their doors to children from the hurricane, this morning 600 students were enrolled. i am so glad. This will give the kids a change for some normalcy. The death toll has reached in the thousands in new orleans. The last time i remember sitting in front of the tv and crying for the lose of fellow americans was 9/11. But this time we cant go attack mother nature.

I was just in New Orleans for the ICES convention, and it is so crazy to think or believe that LA is in such a state. All I can think about is all the nice people i meet and if they are o.k.. i look at pictures of the Hotel i stayed in on the news and i can not believe it is distroyed.

We all need to pray for the one closely touched by this hurricane.

It is so hard to see all the devastation and loss of life. My prayers are with you all and your families.

My heart goes out to everyone that has been accected by this tragedy. I truly believe that God will take care of everyone who helps others during this horrible time. I can't even watch the news anymore without crying. First the tsunami overseas and now this.............!!!
