The "overdecorating" Monster... Lol

Just thought I'd share my overdecorating minor disaster! LOL
Decorated this grad cake last night (the barest one). I wasn't happy with it really, but thought it was ok. So I get up this morning and decide I can't stand it I have to fix it.
Wish I'd stopped about 1/2 way through - I used paint shop to edit the pic so you can see where I wish I'd stopped. Waaay to many yellow stars! Darn it - can't take them off now.
Need to figure out how to control the overdecorator monster in me!! LOL
I too have the over decorator monster in me!!! I like they all look good, but maybe best with just the school logo and a few small stars whimsical around the name.
But they got a great cake so no worries.
I usually become an over decorator when I have too many boo boo's ...LOL!! I love polka dots!
I have the same problem. I just keep addind and adding! But the cake still looks good.
I'm like that too for me it's that I dont' want anyone to say that my cake was just plain so if there is an empty spot then I feel like something such be there.
I don't think it is overdecorated at all....we are our own worst critics...great lookin cake!
I like it. Really! Not overdone at all! In fact in my opinion it would look way too plain if you left off your extra yellow stars. It's a celebration cake and it looks festive and fun. They will love it! I think there's a time to use discretion in decor...such as a wedding cake...but a grad cake like this or a birthday is perfect for over-the-top design I think...although I don't think this was over-the-top at all. It was perfectly fine!
I, too, love the final product. I think it looks nice and festive and not too busy at all.
I think the final cake is great too. I too need over decorators anonymous. I just can't seem to tell when enough is enough!
Thanks everyone! LOL The grad loved it at her party today (my friend's daughter so I got to go). One of these days I'll learn some self-control, though!
Hi, This is my first ever post and I am also an overdecorator. But to me your cake looks the best "overdone!"
I honestly love the finished cake. I don't struggle with over decorating, but it is that I find my cakes underdone half the time. I look at everyone elses cakes and feel like a hack. How do ya'll make it look so effortless and perfect?
I love it with the added yellow stars. It fills the top of the cake more without it being overdone or over crowded.
i love the final cake! way better, good thinking to add the extra stars-i think that's what makes it such a fab cake!! koodos!! i second everyone else-in that the first pic was great, but the last pic was awesome! not overdecorated at all!!
me on the other hand...did you see my farm/sheep pic? (in profile) over decorated....and then there's the nursery rhyme cake....completely overdecorated.....
so you have no worries! your monster is harmless and is staying hidden....!
The final product has my vote also. I do not think there are too many stars. It looked a little naked before - like you ran out of fondant or something. I think the final one is perfect!!

If this cake is a representation of what you do when you "overdo" a cake, don't learn any self-control. I love the cake. I think it's perfect with all the stuff on it. Not overdone at all, the eye keeps moving and enjoying all it's seeing. Good job.
I, too, love the final product. I think it looks nice and festive and not too busy at all.
ditto
it is an art to keep it neat and simple.....been doing this now for about 35 years....when i look back at cakes done about 20 -30 years ago i see the overdone monster....now i like the simple look.
I dont think you overdecorated it, I see what your saying, about the less stars, but I'd MUCH rather have the 'too many' stars (not that I think that) then the 'no stars' version...
and I tend to overdecorate too. Especially with fondant/gumpaste fiqures. LOL I try to include EVERYTHING I can think of in that theme...
