Is there any substitute for tylose, can I use gum tex instead. I am trying to make gumpaste and can't find tylose. If anyone knows of a recipe for gumpaste that doesn't use tylose it would be great.
Thanks
yes you can sub gum tex. or gum trag or cmc. if any of those are available to you. Tylose and cmc are the same thing and are readily available at most cake decorating stores, and online.
Cutelove, I plan on substituting the tylose in Nicholas Lodge's recipe with the gum-tex, once I run out of the tylose. That tylose is expensive!
I use Nicholas Lodge's gumpaste recipe. I think I found it on Edna's site, but if you google it, you'll find it. It's so much cheaper to make than buying premade.
Cutelove,
I still have some gumpaste left from my previous batch, so it may be a while. I will give it a try once my tylose stockpile is gone - probably two to three more batches of gumpaste.
kaymc when you use it let me know wilton gum paste is so soft it brokes all the time so I cant wait till you try it
