I like the look of sanding sugar, but don't like the cost. I know you can color granulated sugar, but I want the sparkle. Is there something else that I could use in place of sanding sugar? I was thinking about using raw sugar, but wasn't sure if it would work. TIA!

You could add some edible glitter to granulated sugar to make it sparkle. That would cut down on the cost and add the sparkle!!

A 1 lb. bag of sanding sugar is $2.30 here:

http://www.countrykitchensa.com/catalog/mini.aspx?ShopId=46&CatId=624&SubCatId=1534

I just buy the big bags and refill the smaller bottles.

Thanks, but it will cost me a minimum of $17.95 just to ship!! I don't know if that us worth it. Ugh! That's one of the bad things for living in Hawaii. Great weather, but when it comes to ordering things, shipping can be ridiculous!!

Sometimes when I have to order something and if it not rush, I wait until I have a LOT of things to order.. it saves on the shipping icon_smile.gif

Yes, that's what I do too, because the minimum shipping for me is $7.95. I have to make it worth my while by ordering more at a time. I even broke down their shipping chart to figure what the best break was -- if I ordered up to $70 the shipping cost was $11.95, or .17 shipping per dollar. To order the minimum, up to $25 was $7.95, or .32 shipping per dollar.

They do have lots of different items there to choose from to make up your order!

when I need something and it's rediculous shipping, I go to my local cake supply store and see if THEY will order it for me! More often than not they get me about the same price, and even if they charge a little more than I can find it online it's still a LOT cheaper without the additional shipping charges!

Good idea -- then you're helping to keep a local business going too!

Unfortunately we don't have any cake supply stores in Hawaii. At least I don't think we do. There is a lot of things that I wouldn't mind getting from that site, but I don't think hubby would approve. He thinks this will be one of those hobbies that I start and dont finish. Lol! And of course I have a kopykake projector on my wish list. I would love to get my hands on one of those!
