I'll post some pictures later.

I need to make a 3d cake of a house. It's pretty extensive. Big porch, big fancy deck in back, couple sections that stick out over the driveway.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should just mke it out of foam and cover it in fondant. To make this all out of cake is going to be a 2 day job.... and I'm not sure HOW to do some of it.

Anyone have some tutorials or suggestions to get me started I would greatly appreciate it.

I think I would make the outside structure out of gingerbread and put a cake inside of it. If that won`t work then I would go ahead with cake - just make sure that everything is internally supported every four inches in height. Break the piece down into individual shapes and stories. If it is basically a two-storey rectangular shaped, house then support between the floors and again where the roof makes a triangle shape at the top. Looking at the project in shaped units will help you see where the supports need to go.
It will mean lots of dowels, stress free legs or whatever method you use, but it will stay up. Roof and porch projections could be made from very thinly rolled sugar cookies or gingerbread and decorated.
Good luck - I can`t wait to see pictures!

I made a house last year when I hadnt made many cakes and I used fruit cake so a) it would be sturdier (didnt know about dowels etc then lol) and b) it would last longer whilst I made it. It was hard work and did not turn out great but it was a replica of my mums house for her bday and she loved it.

Not much advice sorry but good luck and would love to see pics when its done
