Ok-the bear is no problem, the overalls are no problem-the denim look is a problem-I can make the blue but I am afraid that I will "tear it up" trying to make the denim look-anyone of you wonderfully talented ladies and gents able to offer any ideas or suggestions??? All are welcome!

I'm not sure what you mean by tear it up. Were you planning on changing the texture? I would just leave it as stars and pipe yellow stitching along the "seams" with a #1 or #2 tip.

I would smooth the icing out as much as possible and then let it crust a bit about 10 minutes or long enough so it doesn't come off on your finger when you touch it. THEN.....I would take a small piece of tule, and smooth that all over the BC using your fingers to smooth lightly or a small angled spatula. I believe that will give you the denim look!! That's what I would try anyway!!

Good luck, can't wait to see it.

And yes, definately do the stitching with a #2 or #3 depending on how big the bear is.

Thanks for the ideas! I do appreciate it-I did not want to comb the icing to give it that ridged denim look that is on some jeans or overalls-I know I would make a disaster of it that way! Never thought of the tulle-Thanks again for the reminder of the stitching!!!! It's the little things ya don't think of off the bat then go duh about!

You are welcome. I'm anxious to see how it turns out if you end up using that technique! I'm kind of in a "duh" moment now. I have 28 crab cookie cutouts to decorate with royal tomorrow and I'm not sure how I'm going to do it. I know I want to make some or all red. I'm just not sure if I want to spruce them up or not. I'm making these for my nephew's birthday party on sunday. This is the party that I was supposed to make the shark cake for but my SIL pulled the plug on me making it. I had a post about that! Anyway, I just want to show her up (just a little)!

Good luck with the bear. I bet he's going to be sooooo cute with his little coveralls!!!

I always think of other things to say after I post. I learned about the tule when I took a class on wedding cakes. The instructor taught us that as one technique to smooth out the icing. It looks really pretty.

When the tule gets used for a bit and icing does start to come off on it, just rinse it under water and "whip" it really quick to get all the water off of it. Just DON'T crinkle it when you rinse it because creases will show! Learned that the hard way.

I think I'm done now.

See, I would be the one who would ball up the tulle to roll it in a peper towel or something---thank you for the wise words (even if you learned the hardway-it has to start somewhere!!!)
