Hi,

Does anyone have instructions for a violin cake? I want to surprise my daughter with one for her 10th birthday!

Thanks

I made one two years ago (it's in my photos). I was so scared to make it as I had never done something so complicated before. In the end, it was easier than I thought.

I researched a ton and found that a lot of people used a template, so that is what I did. My daughter had a very small violin at the time so I traced around it onto parchment (I would use cardstock or something heavier next time). You could also get an image of a violin, scale it, then print it out. If you want to make a full sized violin, just use your child's violn as a template. Cut out the template, then lay onto the cake and use a knife to cut out the shape. I also made templates for the other pieces (bridge, scroll, pegs, chin rest, F holes, etc.) All of the pieces were made from fondant that had gumtex mixed into it and I made them several days before so they could dry. Oh, I should also mention that the violin itself was only one cake layer. At the time I was too scared to do anything more than that for fear of breaking.

There are many very beautiful violin cakes in the gallery. Use them for inspiration and you'll have a great cake!
