My parents, bless 'em, are having an LP party, to celebrate 33 1/3 years of marriage. I'm trying to figure out how to get that glossy black finish to make an LP cake...I've seen some nice ones using chocolate buttercream, but want to avoid using chocolate as they aren't big fans. Any tips would be very welcome!

black fondant (after all LPs are black vinyl) -- then steam it to get it shiny

you can make the record out of black fondant, then lightly rub crisco on top of it, wiping the excess off gently with a paper towel. that makes the fondant shiney.

Dpes steaming it keep it shiny after it dries? I saw Buddy on Cake Boss do that but...... LOL..... that show is so setup I had no idea why he was doing it! LOL

I steam mine - they have a nice shine on them, but not glossy like a record. There was a thread just a short while back, about putting a shiny finish on a bottle cake. It looked fantastic! She said she painted it with 1 part vodka to 1 part liquid glucose.
