I just wanted to say that I really like the SCAL2 program. It is great much better then the original SCAL. I have been using it with my Cricut Cake. I have been using the program to cut words and monograms for cakes. I love being able to weld the script together so that the whole word is connected and I can just place the whole word on the cake.
Hi! sorry to be ignorant about this but could you tell me if cricut cake is any different from the regular cricut? I noticed that people keep writing cricut cake, I am familiar with the Cricut and know that many people have used it very successfully with cake decorating, but has there been a new product? And more importantly (at least to me) what is SCAL? I have had trouble finding the discussions that I read here several months ago where people discussed cricut and a different something and their pros and cons. Is this SCAL the different something? I seem to remember that what ever it was could take any image off your computer and cut it out? Is that correct? That's what I want to be able to do. Where can I find out more about SCAL?
Thank you for any info you can give me!
The Cricut Cake is a new release from ProvoCraft. Built on the same body, etc, as the Expression, they changed some of the parts to be food safe, and protected. There are some new cartridges for cake dec, but all the others will work as well. And the new cake ones will work in the other machines, so you can have a whole theme of paper goods and cake if you want.
SCAL is Sure Cuts A Lot. The 2 is the updated version. I also am having good results with this program. It allows you to use your own outline designs, or create from clipart, or download from many sites that have .svg files, and then cut these with your Cricut.
Hurray! Another person who likes SCAL! Honestly I think the new SCAL and MTC are very similar in their capabilities, but a lot of people who did their research before purchasing saw results for SCAL v1.
I could go on about what I do and do not like about each, but that's another post. Just remember you can trace an image (e.g. jpg file) into SCAL w/o needing to convert it to SVG first!
Hi Jenn,
Did you have any trouble getting your Cricut cake to recognise the SCAL program? I have installed SCAL on my computer, watched a video tutorial on how to get the drivers installed but my SCAL would not install the driver. I have tried several ways but I can't get it to work. Have been at it all day and I am really ready to throw the whole thing out of the window! Any tips would be most welcome!
AHi. I was wondering if you have any helpful advice or have any links for the use of Cricut & SCAL2. I find both very intimidating :( I am hoping to make a NYPD detective badge cake & am clueless how to use both or either. ANY advice, links or help would be greatly appreciated !!!!

AThe Cricut Cake stopped supporting SCAL and MTC a couple years ago. It's for that reason that I stopped updating my cricut then - still on the same old build, but I still use my MTC software on it. If you have a newer cricut or have updated its firmware in the last couple years, you're out of luck unfortunately. Cricut decided they wanted to keep all your money for new cartridges.
So if I have an older regular cricuit and had SCAL2 I could design and print my own designs? I've been looking at a cricuit cake, but don't have one yet, but I do have an older regular cricuit.
AOnly if you haven't plugged it into your computer and gotten an update in the last few years. I don't know offhand what the last build that allows it is, but I could get mine out and look for you if you want.
I looked it up. I haven't plugged it into my computer since just after I got it. It's the Cricut personal. I've never done an update, so maybe I'll be good. I ordered the software from Amazon, we will see! I hope it works! I have to admit when I plugged it into my computer after I got it, I wondered why it even had a computer connection. But if this works... it's a whole new world!
Well, I messed that all up. I got the software. Plugged in my Cricut personal, and it was 1.0 firmware, which has to be 1.4 to work with the software, so I HAD to update, and of course it didnt give me an option to choose, so now I'm over updated! I've searched and searched and can't find how to un-update. Poo.

AHello to everyone with a Cricut Mini Cake Cutter! I know I'm out of the loop with this thing because tonight I caught on fire with frustration(hot flashes didn't help either) trying to use the thing. I could not get the drivers to down load nor could I use the Cricut Craft Room. It would not recognize the machine I have. I know this puppy is discontinued. Can I now go to SCAL. I can't buy any mats. I'm SORRY I BOUGHT THIS THING! Has anyone else had the same problem.?
ASCAL2 (sure Cuts a lot) is a software program you can use with your Cricut. IT IS AWESOME !!! If you are having problems wit your Cricut I would contact them directly ! If you are interested in purchasing the SCAL2 that is no longer compatible with the current CRICUT, let me know. I can get you a copy that will work.
Good Luck !
ACricut Cake is THE SAME as Cricut but has FDA approved parts & there arent the same rollers on Expression so you do not get roller marks. SCAL2 is Sure Cuts A Lot. a Program that used to me manufactured that was compatible with CRICUT / CAKE. They made them change it ( you dont EVER need to buy another cartridge if you do not want to). If you want an older version that works with CRICUT / CAKE let me know and I can refer you ! THEY ARE AMAZING
AThank you NYRchick! I had to unlock my brain Friday from being so angry, I had to remember how to use it manually. I was blessed, it did work manually, but "Great Scott", it took a while and several runs to get the pieces just right for the cake. Here it is:

some pieces were cut by hand. Again, thank you and thank you "Pink Cake Box" for the design, my niece sent me a picture of the cake, I Googled it and found out where it came from. Please send me what ever version of SCAL or MTC that will work with thing. Pam
