Does anyone know how to color white dragees. I purchased these with the idea that I can color them however I want. I can't get a deep color (more of a blush of color) and the dust rubs off. I am just using dry luster dust with the dragees shaken around in them. Any ideas? TIA
I can't get silver dragees here in CA so I have made paint out of luster dust and vodka and rolled the dragees around in it. Then I rolled them onto a plastic matt and let them dry. When I went to use them I simply put the part of the dragee that had the "ring" from where the matt hit the dragee onto the cake and the perfect side facing out. It was the only way to get silver. Not sure if that would work with a regular gell color and vodka but worth a try I'd guess.
nick lodge, when he used sillk white luster dust on some small white pearls, he placed the pearls and silk white in a storage or freezer bag and then use several drops of everclear or vodka , closed bag and shook and massaged the bag , then poured up. try that method. hth

What she said! One of my favorite cake artists needed a different color. She said she just rolled them around in a little dust with some Everclear. She only needed white with shimmer. She did get a funky shimmer, it had to do with the ocean. I think you might be able to get it done if you do it in layers. Have a spray bottle of vodka/everclear and roll in the color. Let dry and then spray and roll again.
Using a mister is a good idea. That way they won't dry with a puddle around them. Does anyone know where you can find, or what you can use, to make a fine mist? The spritz bottles that I use with water aren't that fine a mist.

Use a perfume atomizer, or perfume spray bottle. You can buy empty ones. They make a very fine mist.
eta: The push-button-top ones are easier to use than the squeeze-ball ones.

a google search will bring you tons of options, from fancy collector ones to plain and cheap ones. They are commonly found in stores that sell aromatherapy products. Whole Foods Market has them in their aromatherapy section if you have one near you. I've also seen them in dollar stores. Here's a link to a bunch on Amazon:
