I accidentally cut the dress too short on this cake. Any suggestions on how I could fix it?
PS: Next time I would use the 1/2 sports ball 2 cupcakes for the boobs/bell.The 1/2 soccer ball and two 1/2 sports balls are far too big for this 1/2 sheet cake. I also plan to put a bow and some other things (pearls, roses, etc.) to symbolize June baby.
Also had lots of trouble with my BC - first time trying to do a smooth BC cake- had no computer paper OR Viva towels-- substitute suggestions?
TIA!
I think it might work if you even out the bottom side on the left- then make a lace/sugar veil or another piece of fondant and put it under the "boobs" part of the cake- or you can make a 1 or 2 inch hem and attach just to the bottom of the dress. Not sure if it helps... I don't always explain things easily- I hope the experts pipe in to help!
What if you treated the dress more like a shirt and then added a skirt/shorts?? Something like this:

How about making a coordinating color bow and hem for the dress/shirt?
I would place a ribbon with a simple loop bow under the boobs and use the same color band at the bottom, once you trim it just a bit. If you have an impression mat, you could use that and tie them together with that pattern.
Having a bow with long tail ribbons going over the belly might help camoflage the "big" belly you are seeing.
I think a little ruffle edge at the bottom along with a matching bow or band above it.
You can put another layer of foundant on the botton... and put a ribbon in the middle with some flower or something like that... you ca see at my photos wtha I try to explain...
I would have to agree with the others, add an extra strip of fondant to the bottom and to accent the top of the dress.
Okay, so I tried to fix it with a bow, lace on the bottom( which you cant really see) as well as some lace around the boobs. And it still looks pornographic! !!!The boobs are way too big. This is a shower for our CEO! I am embarassed to bring in this cake. This is a pretty laid back group and she has a good sense of humor, but there will be 20 people there, including the Board Chair. And I am a senior manager. I would like to do a quick fix if you have any other ideas??? But I dont really have time to take all the fondant off and make more and redo. But maybe I will have to...
TIA
OK, I see where it would be awkward to give a big boobed cake to your CEO!
Your additions look great. What if you try to make shirt lapels? I can see using a couple of triangles cut like lace laying in a V shape in the boob valley and covering up some of the boob surface area. Maybe a strip of white fondant that looks like the buttons would be there right in the middle of the cleavage with the lapel points attached. If you could do the fondant really thin and maybe a little ruffly on the edges, you could turn the top into more of a collared shirt?
Does that make a visual for you?
Well, here is the finished result - not like I wanted it to look, but better. Though, I ran into other issues (belly got squished by top of box etc.. ) But it is as fixed as it is going to get! I didnt want to take it all apart, so based on all the helpful advice I received here and from another caker at work, I just made the hem on the skirt and added some flesh tone fondant overtop of existing fondant on the boob part. I think it minimizes that area a bit because it breaks it up and improves the cake, in general. Yes, I know that laying fondant over fondant is a no-no, but at this point, do I really care if anyone eats it?!!! Not!
Thanks for all the help!
