Can I add black food coloring to dark chocolate ganache? If so, which should I use (I have Ateco super black gel and Cake Craft super black paste) and when should I add it? I know dark chocolate ganache will end up being dark brown but if possible I'd like the cake to be black without using fondant...

Along the same line, can I add Cointreau to the ganache? My main fear is that I will do something to cause the ganache to seize but I'd like to have an orange-flavored ganache for my Clockwork Orange themed cake.

I added yellow wilton paste colour to white choc ganache on the weekend and it turned out great! I waited till all the choc was melted with the cream and then just folded it through.I just kept adding little amounts of colour till i had the right shade. I'm not sure if you will get the ganache to go really black as it is always so hard to get a good black colour. But being that you are already using dark choc you might have more luck. HTH

Thanks wildwolves! I won't be heartbroken if it doesn't turn out super black because this cake is just for fun but I would like it to be more black than brown.

I'll be sure to post a photo but it won't be for a while because I'm not actually decorating the cake until next week

I just posted a pic of my first try with white chocolate ganache that I colored black for the very top. I mixed the black in after it cooled and had no trouble. It was REALLY dark too, jet black.

Well that white chocolate definitely looks black so I'm thinking I shouldn't have any issues with getting dark chocolate to look black. Did you notice any change in the consistency of the ganache after adding coloring?
