Thanks!

It was actually really easy. I called the Dept of Agriculture and requested an inspection. They said an inspector would call in about 2 weeks for an appt. I had to call back because the inspector never called, but within a week after my second call, I heard.

She called yesterday and said she'd had a cancellation and could see me at 4pm. I ran around the house like a crazy person, cleaning and printing off my labeling example.

The inspection itself only took like 5 minutes. She looked at the walls and ceilings, looked in my oven, checked my spatulas and explained when they would need to be replaced (when they aren't considered cleanable anymore) and checked the temp in my fridges and whether I had a thermometer in there. She approved my labeling. The rest of the 45 min she was there was just filling out paperwork and taking my check.

Now I can do cakes for the border states (which was killing me to turn down, as I am right across the river from Kentucky) and I get to do IMBC and cheesecake! I can't wait to start testing cheesecake recipes again.

Now all I need is my name to be accepted by the Ohio Sec of State and my LLC will be set up. I probably won't have the time for Oklahoma this year due to all this running around, but that's ok. A year off will be good for me. icon_lol.gif

Still gotta get new checking account, change names on the credit card, insure my DH's truck for work....phew!

Anyway, yes....it is good to get revved up again. I'm glad I decided not to quit.

Do we just have to go through the Dept of Agriculture or did you have to go through your city as well?

I went through the state. I tried to contact my city but the response was somewhat less than informed. "We don't know anything about this..."

I was legal. In Ohio you can do a cottage foods bakery where you can't sell stuff that requires refrigeration, but if you stay within that rule, you are legal. If you are inspected and licensed, you can do the refrigerated stuff.

IMBC needs to be refrigerated, so I couldn't do that until now.

Danc! All that to be able to use IMBC?! Don't you just love government regulations sometimes... icon_confused.gif
