So my husband's 18 yr old cousin, who we are not close to at all, just emailed me to tell us she just got engaged. icon_eek.gif She then proceded to tell me "Since you LOVE to decorate cakes, you can make my wedding cake as your gift to us since I know it would mean so much to you to do it for us" Seriously? She has got to be kidding icon_lol.gif And here is the best part, they need it for 250 people!!! Ummm, no thank you!!!
I just can't believe the nerve of some people!!! I only do smaller cakes for friends and family, just because and for free, I am not licensed and I simply enjoy it. BUT, I will not be doing this "free cake"
She probably called around and got price quotes and started freaking out icon_surprised.gif ...
Anyone else have distant family want free cakes???

I should tell her, "yeah, I will do the cake, if you go buy me a new KitchenAid Mixer, Cricut machine and that new TV we had our eye on, just because I know it would mean so much to you to buy it for us" icon_lol.gif

Dear cousin who I hardly know:
What makes you think I was planning on giving you a $1000 wedding gift to start with? icon_confused.gif Sorry that I'm unable to fulfill this request, but your gift selection for me is about $980 over my gift budget to you.

I haven't responded yet, simply because I am speechless!!! Oh and she also wants my 4 yr old daughter, whom she has met maybe 4 times, to be her flower girl. icon_rolleyes.gif

I told her I would do a 4 tier fondant covered and decorated fake cake for her for $300, then she can feel free to call up any ol' bakery and get sheet cakes to serve if she is looking for ways to cut costs. I have a feeling I won't be hearing back from her... icon_twisted.gif

WOW...I guess she thinks you guys are closer than you do. Good luck with that one. An easy out is to tell her you are not licensed and do not feel comfortable making a cake for that many people and that the liability is too high.

Wow! That's sooo ballsy! Really I would also tell her that you planned on more like a $50 wedding gift, so you'd be happy to take $50 off the price of a $1000 cake.

Wow...wow...wow!

Hey I *DO* have a relative story!

It's amazing that some relatives think we live and breathe for them to schmooze us.

In 1991, I had a distant cousin get married and my aunt (her grandmother) asked if I would make the cake. This is my favorite aunt and I said yes. I then discovered I had a prior committment. The reason I remember the year is because it was the year I was the 1991 Mrs. Rose Festival Queen and the week of her wedding was the week of the Festival and I had contractual agreements for appearances, parades and such. As soon as I realized that, I called my aunt and told her I couldnt' do the cake, so they'd have to get someone else.

My aunt, god luv her, told me "Oh but she really wanted you to do her cake!" as if I'd just melt with the "compliment" of how this bride wanted MY cake. She wanted MY cake alright ... because it was free.

I spent quite some time on the phone with my aunt trying to get her to understand that I just wasn't available! To add insult to this whole thing, the bride's dad is a millionaire (no kidding) yet I'm getting pressured to make a free cake AND drive it to Cincinnati OH.

But oh gosh just swoon a little and schmooze Debi with compliments and she'll fall for it!

Hep me, Rhonda!

Should you wish to place an order for a Wedding Cake with me - by all means - please send details by return email - and i shall forward all costings to you shortly.

Hmmm, wonder why you were not alerted to the fact that she *was* getting engaged - lolllllllllllll

Don't stress over her rudeness and brashness -
Just make out as tho you have no clue as to who she is - that will bring her gently back to planet earth - thumbs_up.gificon_lol.gif

She's 18 so she probably doesn't think you will see through what she is saying. She is a real piece of work!

oh honey shes 18 so she thinks she deserves everything for free. After all most 18 year olds think the world revolves around them.

Just tell he you can't do the cake, as you are already booked that weekend.
