Try the clear plastic chocolate molds for people. They are around 2 bucks each and super easy to use. There is a man, woman, and a child mold. Each mold has separate body parts and fondant or gumpaste is easily pushed in the mold and then you put the body together.

I am actually making people with it tonight. This is the second time Ive used it and it works like a charm.

I agree Lorraine McKay is the best! What type of person are you trying to make? Little girl, boy, sitting, standing?

I have never used them, but in the Michael's in my town, they have people molds in the clay department.

First of all, what are you using for the modeling? Gumpaste, Fondant with Tylose, Candy Clay?

I like to use Fondant with tylose. It gives me a little longer to work before it hardens. For the standing men, you are going to want to put something in their legs to give a little extra support, like spagetti or toothpicks. Make the legs first and let them dry a while before adding the weight of the torso. Too much weight on the legs right away will cause them to squish down and wrinkle.

I don't know how much time you have before you need the figures, but you might want to invest in a couple of Lorraine's tutorials. Sculpy clay books are also very helpful, and I also like Debbie Brown's books.

I just posted a pregnant woman today and I wrote (and showed pics) on this thread: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-675682.html
about my first time making one.
