So, I have a cake due for Sunday night, but my kids have sports activities all day Saturday and Sunday, so any logical person would know that they should probably bake and freeze today and tomorrow, then ice/decorate on Saturday morning, right? Why the heck haven't I started? I also have to have a fondant bow for the top, so I should really have the loops made and drying...again, not even started. I really wanted to get this business going, so why am I already procrastinating? I also have 350 cuppies due for Wednesday and Thursday...I have 100 baked and in the freezer, but only because I was making mini cuppies for a bridal tasting last weekend. Otherwise, I wouldn't have them done yet. What is wrong with me? Someone give me a kick in the booty to get moving!
Thanks for letting me vent...or procrastinate a little longer
Venting is the best way to help resolve your "why" questions. I have had my "studio" aka spare room in shambles with the goal of organizing all my bakery stuff for months.
Your initial goal to do certain tasks first is a good one....I say take a walk, get some fresh air and go to it!
dizzy
It's funny that I just posted this, because my customer just called and wants to push the cake back a week! It works out better for me, and it's good that I procrastinated and hadn't started baking yet I'm still going to try to get that bow done today so that it has plenty of time to dry.
Thanks for listening to me
I hear ya! I get like that when it is a cake that I am having trouble envisioning fully done (like maybe I am going back and forth on whether I should use a bow or flower or something silly like that) OR am stressed about the cake for some reason...I think I need that extra time to "process." Seems counterintuitive, b/c I am only really adding to my stress time, but I work well under pressure and I think I unconsciously create that pressure for myself. One of these days that is SOOO going to bite me in the butt!! One thing that does work is to do what you just did: confess! Once you say it out loud to someone you become accountable, and it is easier to give yourself that little push. Oh, and sometimes I talk myself into doing just one small thing...and once I get at it, I get in the groove and stay at it. No psychoanalyzing that one, please
We must have posted at the same time.... You see, that's just the kind of thing that keeps me procrastinating, lol! Glad it worked out for you!
So I know that I get a sore throat if I don't get enough sleep. Knowing this you would think that I would plan to get my baking and decorating done early enough that I don't have to stay up late. Let's just say I'm going on week 3 with a sore throat. Next week I have a wedding cake for a Friday evening wedding all fondant - 3 tiers with 2 smaller 2 tier cakes next to it - seven cakes in all. I predict that I'll be at least 4 weeks with a sore throat before it's all over. I have a 2 year old and a full time job, I'm not sure if I'm crazy about cakes, or just crazy.
I hear you. I have had a cake order for over a month that needs tons of little gumpaste figures created. I always think about the amount of work involved and that I should be getting a head start..........well the cake is due Saturday and now I am freaking out considering tonight is out of the question as I have other commitments. I also have a cake due Sunday.....I must like the pressure or something.
