I had a bride call today and ask if we could do individual tiered cakes for her wedding. I can't even begin to come up with an idea of how much to charge.

For those of you that have made them are they a huge pain? Or do you just get in a grove and assembly line them? I have no idea if she wants fondant or buttercream. I see the CK has a silicone pan with four cakes or the individual tiered cake pans. Which are easier to use?

I have cake molds that make 2 tier cakes. They are a ROYAL pain for me to ice neatly. I have never done fondant on them. I only do it for certain church function that I'm involved in, but if I were charging it would be $5-$10 per cake (serves 2)

Depending on exact size there are pans out there that make the three tiers, so baking/stacking isn't that big of a deal. But icing and decorating them is.

I have seen some who won't do one for less than $25/ea. You may want to do a test run before you give a price to see if you really want to do it.

Also, when figuring your cost don't forget that each cake needs a cake board, and a box if she wants them, those add up quickly.

This post came at a good time for me. My cousin asked me to make 50-80 individual graduation caps. I charged her $3.75 each and have been kicking myself for the last month!!

I only have one pan that size (6 at a time)

1. Bake pan 14 times.

2. cool 84 cakes

3. ice 80 cakes

4. cover in fondant 80 cakes

5. airbrush silver 80 cake


Not to mention pre making 80 squares for the top of the cap and letting dry!

I should have charged at l least $5 each and that would be like a family special!

Luckily, she decided to get just 15 of them and one large cake. PHEW!

Well I am from Puerto Rico. Depending on the design the prices may vary. One time someone asked me and I made some calls to get feedback for the price and all of them told me NOT to charge less than $15 each because they are a real pain. And $15 was for fondant and just a border or ribbon and a flower or something real simple on top of the mini cake.
You can buy the pans but they cost around $80 and if you are going to cut it that will be a royal pain and then icing the ones "home" cut is a lot of work. Luckily when I told her the price she changed of mind!!!

I made 30 mini wedding cake favors for my son's wedding, fondant covered 2 tier with gumpaste flowers. If I were to charge someone, I would say $25-30 each. (good luck) They were truly a labor of love. I don't know how to add the attached picture of them. You can check my photos here to see them. Bottom tier was 4" and top tier 2 1/2". It was much easier to cover in fondant doing each tier separately.

I was thinking a minimum of $15 for buttercream and $20 for fondant, I'm sure the bride will freak out at those prices, but I'm ok with that.

I might have to make some dummies though, they're just so cute!
