My recipe has 1 cup butter and 1/2 cup shortening (and Nutella). (Going under chocolate fondant.) Does this buttercream need to be refrigerated?
Thanks!

any cream or milk? powdered sugar? just curious what else you are using. If there's no milk then I would assume it is ok not to refrigerate. The butter, crisco and nutella will be fine.

I just made some chocolate bc with nutella in it. I figured since the nutella doesn't need to be chilled or the bc, the two together should be fine.

There is about 2 tablespoons of low fat half and half. (LOL) Trying to save a calorie or two! Also 1 lb powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Thanks for the advice!

No need to refrigerate just because it has milk in it. Read the "icing" thread. Doug explains in great detail as to the reason no refrigeration is needed. thumbs_up.gif

You're welcome Kerrie, I hate to refrigerate my cakes. I just don't like cold cake and cold iciing. So many times I see people on here say that if the icing has milk it has to be refrigerated and that just isn't true.
