How to I make edible glue to attach fondant bows and ribbons

I need help, please. I am making a birthday cake and I really do not know how to attach my fondant decorations to the cake. I have hear that you can use the buttercream to attach bows and ribbons, is this true? What are some other receipes for edible glue? I also saw on you tube, a lady using tylose powder is that the same or similar to meringue powder? (I saw on the Wilton website that you can use meringue powder and water.) I realy just want to know what works? (I don't want my pieces falling off during the party) Thanks in advance!

For fondant cut outs like circles and flowers I just use a little water. If I'm putting a loopy bow on top of my cake I use fondant dissolved in a little water to make a glue.

sberryp, buttercream to attach bows are not always reliable (esp if attached to side of cake I know from experience) you can use tylose mixed with water, I have used meringue powder, gum tex, some dissolve a piece of fondant in water also and some use melted chocolate, any of these will work. HTH

I use tylose with water. You have to make it the day before so it all combines. I use about 1/4 tsp tylose to 2 TBS warm water. I like it a little thicker than thin. I use that to stick fondant and gumpaste things together. If I am putting fondant/gumpaste on b/c I use b/c to attatch it. icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the suggestions, but I do not have tylouse powder at home. I guess I am going to have to try to use the fondant and water methods or the meringue powder and water. How long do I have to wait for the fondant and water to dissolve?

For the cutouts I would use water, for the bows I would use melted chocolate.

I always use gum glue; 2 TBS water with a pea-sized piece of gumpaste dissolved in it.

I'm with you tiggy. I never have any problem using just water for cutouts.

I used water for the cut outs and a little fondant for the bow with water. Check the cake out if you have a chance, This is my fourth fondant cake, My 1st tiered fondant cake.

Thanks! This is my first tiered fondant cake. Should I put the rods in before or after I put the fondant on the cake?

I put my supports in before covering with fondant. The center support after everything is completed. Cute cake btw. thumbs_up.gif

Question- I read on another post that you use bubble straws, do you still use a dowel for the center?

I apply vanilla onto the fondant piece with a paintbrush and I find it works better than water as glue. Hope this helps!
