Hi,
I have a cake order in which my customer wants edible jewelry on the cake. I usually make things out of candy melts. She wants them to be gold, and I have read that mixing luster dust with lemon extract and painting it on will work. Will this make a smooth gold color or just give a glittery effect?
Thanks!
Berta
If you add enough of the luster dust it will make a gold "paint" and cover nicely. You can use extract or alcohol. I use vodka when I do it.

Hi Debbie,
How much liquid do I add to say 1 tbsp of Luster Dust? It won't be grainy when liquid is added will it?
Thanks 4 your help!
Berta
unless you are painting a large area you won't need nearly that much dust. I just sprinkle some dust into a medicine cup and add the liquid a drop at a time until it paints the way I want it to. It won't be grainy. Just add your liquid a little at a time until you get the consistency you want. Use a piece of extra fondant/candy melt to practice on. To be honest - i've only used this on fondant or gumpaste so you might want to test it on candy melts to make sure it will work.

Debbie,
I really appreciate all of your help. I will try it on the candy melts today or tomorrow; I just wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing before I got started. I will let you know how it turns out.
Thanks Again!
Berta
You're welcome! Good luck to you! I learn everything the hard way - trial and error!

I used gold luster dust on wedding ring cookies. It took very little. It goes a long way.
There is a picture of the cookies in my photos.
