After 7 years of business i finally had a cake-tastrophie!!!
carring 2 boxes, which ive done many, many times. a deco pac wedding cake delivery system box and small 1/2 sheet cake on top, i could not see the floor. so i tripped over a extension cord that was not taped down!! landed on my knees and elbow. needless to say, rug burned knee, elbow and left knee instantly blew up to the size of a baseball!! oh yeah, the cakes? you guessed. upside down. so i had to hurry home and redo them. thank god i had a customer who cancelled a marble cake and had that in the freezer to rely on for the emergency redo. also thank god it was only the bottom tier of a small 2 tier cake, and was an easy fix.i was able to fix the sheet cake easily.

moral of the story...check out venues floor first to make sure its cleared and cords taped down!!

I'm sorry about the cake and I hope you're alright!

Don't beat yourself up about it...I fell in a parking lot at work heading to a meeting, and I could see the ground just fine. :/ Scraped my knee pretty badly too.

I haven't fallen myself...Knock on wood but I did have a customer almost topple down my steps with a cake when she turned to talk to me and missed the step....Now I always tell them to watch out and look.

oh my goodness! so sorry this happend to you and i hope you feel better soon. i always walk from my car to the venue to see where the cake needs to go and scope out the path from my car to the cake table. also always give the table a jiggle to make sure it's steady. it's crazy but a couple times the table was so wobbly i was just stunned that they would even consider placing a heavy tiered cake on such a thing!!

Hope your wounds are better soon and that you're not too sore from falling . Glad that you were able to fix the cake. At least that worked out for you.

What a trouper you must be!!! I think I'd have sat down on the floor, cried, and consoled myself with a handful of that dropped cake. I'm glad you were able to fix it, even with your banged-up arm!

I can't tell you how many times I've had the thought, "What if I trip?", just as I'm carrying a 45 pounder through a reception venue. Seems like the extra heavy ones are also the ones where the cake table is just through those doors, around the corner, through the glass double doors, down the stairs, around 12 tables, up two steps, and onto the platform area.

Glad you are okay!! Sounds like a good save - I would have probably sat down and cried. I have the same fear. I don't do a lot of cakes but recently did a large wedding cake for a friend. It seemed everyone wanted to gather at the entrance and yack while a bratty kid about 10-12 thought it was cute to run in front of me while I was carrying the cake in.

That sounded like it hurt A LOT! I hope you are feeling better. Good of you to fix it so quickly and make the best of the situation.
I once fell and hurt my knees pretty bad. I was about 7-8 months pregnant and working at a day care center, carrying a 2 year old girl down a "stage area" with two steps. With a big belly plus carrying the girl I did not see the steps, when I took my right foot out towards the first step, my shoe got stuck inside my pants on my left leg. So I had no foot to stop myself with and fell towards the floor. All I could think of was to hold the girl as high as I could, and I took the whole fall on my knees. She was fine (and my baby) but I could hardly walk for the rest of the day.

Thank goodness you are okay. I guess it is every bakers worst fear of falling or dropping a cake.
I usually ask for one of those carts they use for setting and clearing the tables. I park the car close to the door, wheel the cart close to the car and take everything in on it even if it means six trips.
