I am making a cake for my friend's husband's graduation next weekend in the theme of his favorite movie, "The Big Lebowski" (which is also MY favorite movie, so this is my dream cake project!). If you haven't seen it, one of the most prominent associations with the movie is the "white russian" mixed drink, which is vodka, kahlua (or other coffee-flavored liquer) and cream. This would make for a great cake flavor or filling, but here's the catch... the grad is a recovered alcoholic, so no booze. Does anyone have suggestions for pulling it off using some kind of non-alcoholic flavorings? I have not really worked with anything beyond vanilla, almond and fruit extracts yet!

Thanks in advance!

Just use strong coffee as the liquid in the cake (if you are doing a dr'd mix) Then use something like rich's bettercream as the filling.

DaVinci Gourmet Syrups make a Kahlua flavor.

I dunno, from personal experience with alcoholics..why do you want a virgin drink cake..recovery is more than just not having alcohol intake, but also a mindset....do you see what I'm getting at? JMO...

I bought Kahlua-flavored syrup (for coffee drinks) at sam's club recently. They even have it in sugar-free.

ODoul's is not 100% non-alcoholic. It is 0.4%. So no - recovering alcoholics would not drink it.

You also have to understand the Big Lebowski sub-culture (and yes, it has a maniacal following); I can definitely see why the OP would want to incorporate the White Russian flavor into the cake.

yes i know it has a some amount of alcohol in it.its not the point, i have 2 family members that are and have been in recovery for over 20 years and would never want a cake or frosting that tasted anything like a alcoholic made drink...so i would first ask around to see if this would be ok or not..

It's a touchy subject....I personally would not do it...It's not even all about the recovering alcoholic, but also his family...more often than not they've been thru hell. If you get it cleared with family and reciepent, then by all means go for it.
I admit, I've not even seen the movie...but I know there's a huge following...couldn't you do something like a bowling ball or something....just go with a different theme?
