If you regularly watch this show, you know about the yearly wedding. If not... Today hosts a wedding every year and the viewers get to pick all the components.. gown, tux bridesmaid attire, venue for reception and of course THE CAKE icon_biggrin.gif . The cakes were unveiled this morning and the choices are really beautiful. They are also offering groom's cakes this year. You can go to the link posted below and vote for the cake you like. Unfortunately they did not post the pics of the groom's cakes. The first was a barbell (the groom is a fitness guy) the second was a "bushel of crabs (exactly like the one posted on here icon_surprised.gif ) the third had a beach theme with a jeep on the top and the fourth was a tuxedo to go with the brides cake which was a replica of the bridal gown. Have fun looking and vote for your favorite!! I do. thumbs_up.gif

I just voted... my choice is #3 the gift box cake. I also noticed that they have a video of the segment that aired this morning.. you can see the groom's cakes on that.

I'm the same way as you, always looking at the cakes on tv. icon_smile.gif

Too bad the pictures aren't bigger. The pink/black one looks like the fondant rows are uneven. It's a pretty cake though. The wedding gown one I do not care for. I've seen these cakes done much better. The other two are very pretty.

Great post!

I agree Sangria.. I dont care for the "wedding gown" cake. I have seen a picture of another gown cake by the same cake designer and I didn't like that one either (lol) It is done by the Cake Diva in Hoboken NJ.

Is that the same Cake Diva that was on the birthday cake challenge?
I was not thrilled with that wedding gown cake, either.

I also don't like the cake divas cake....Just this past weekend on the food network there was a birhtday cake competition. The cake diva was one of the competitors and I did not like her or her cake at all. She actually seems very annoying to me. I have also checked out her website and was not that fond of her stuff. The first place winner was from montery, Ca and has a really nice website I would recommend checking out: www.justcake.com
She has a $500 min. on all cake orders! I only wish that I can be that successful one day!

chefali.. I think the woman who won that challenge is very talented. The cake diva's place is very near where I live and I have never heard of her until I saw that program on tv. I have checked out the Just Cake website.. awesome stuff.

Hi Everyone,
My favorite was #3. But I have to say the #1 and #2 were beautiful too.
I didn't go for the wedding cake dress either.

The Today Show website has a link to the video of the show so you can see the groom's cakes too.

Here are the links to all the bakers websites. There are some amazing cakes. Charm City Cakes: http://www.charmcitycakes.com/

I went for #3 myself, probably because I'm more of a traditionalist. However, that crab cake, while nice looking, is a stolen idea and we know who origonated it, don't we?

Thanks, I was wondering when they'd get to the cakes. I've been watching CNN in the morning lately so I missed it.

I must say, Cake Diva does have an impressive clientele.

I voted for the 3rd cake..........I really prefer traditional stuff. I went to all 4 web sites and I like the 3 websites cakes better too.

Thanks for the great post, I always love looking at other's cakes! I couldn't decide between cake #2 (pink/chocolate) and cake#3, but the groom's cakes finally decided for me because I loved the jeep and dogs on the beach cake! The wedding cake dress didn't gel with me at all, but just my personal taste I guess.

Ha ha Chefali!!!
I am not a fan of the Cake Diva either!! In the birthday cake challenge on the food network her carousel cake was atrocious!!! I think the women here on CC have done MUCH better work then she has!!! LOL
I hate to be critical of ANYONE, but I am not impressed by cake diva at all. LOL

I voted for the pink and brown cake...I loved that one!
I thought the groom's cake looked alot like cakemaker's crabbushel cake that she entered in the CC food contest!!!

Happy baking everyone.

I went with #3 also. #1 and 2 were nice also. #4 didn't do anything for me at all. I've seen wedding dress cakes that were much more elegant.

If I were to judge on style alone, it would have been #3. But when they added the cake flavors into the decision, I had to pick #2. The flavors of the #3 gift box cake just did not appeal to me.

I'm going to be unpopular...I liked the Cakediva's cake...I really liked her grooms cake-I just think she didn't make that great of an impression on everyone from the food channel's challenge (they way she tugged on her weight belt?!) just my thoughts...don't shoot me.

I voted for cake #3 but #2 was very close. I didn't like the one by cakediva-for some reason I kept picturing the bride walking in it and it was not an attactive site (I am definately not as small as the bride so I guess I pictured my body in it and not hers-not flattering at all.!) The grooms cakes were pretty cool-although one in particular looked so familiar....hmmmmmmmmmm

Call me unoriginal, but my vote was #3, too. Couldn't really tell what #1 looked like, but pumpkin choc chip didn't sound very good.

Don't like the Cake Diva's at all. Maybe if she made it taller & narrower it would have been a little better. As it is, it's just too squat. Didn't like her b-day challenge cake either. It had all the planning and execution you would expect of a 12 yr old with ADD. I do like some of the cakes on her website, but I think she's overrated.

I agree with the #3 cake! The grooms cake that went with it was very cute! I also really liked the brown and pink cake. Cake Diva, well, I think it has already been said. lol I think the only bummer part was that in the video I thought they both said they preferred vanilla and none of the three wedding cakes were vanilla! Oh well, hopefully the grooms cake was.

Did anyone see the grooms cake competition? My aunt just e-mailed me about the cake done by Fancy Cakes by Leslie. It was the spitting image of my bushel of crabs cake! She's in my area too! I wonder if I inspired it?!

I am glad I am not alone. I know I am new to cake decorating but I feel mine look better than the one the Cake Diva did on the birthday challenge. It was horrible. I can't believe they had her in the competition. Some of the pics I have seen here are so much better.
As far as the Today show, I prefer the gift box cake. Simple but elegant.

I just watched the clip again on line to see the bushel of crabs cake again. It showed the cake diva's cakes - both the dress and the tux grooms cake. I wasn't thrilled with the dress cake but the tux cake is pretty cool!

I'm still wondering if Fancy Cakes by Leslie got the cake idea from mine for the bushel of crabs cake!

Is it me or is the wedding dress cake kind of short and stubby?

It looks really funny to me. I would think it would be taller to look more like a dress and less like a tent. Is the picture messed up, maybe? I didn't watch the show.

llj it looked like that on TV too lol The Cake Diva has another one posted on her website and it looks short an stubby too. I am thinking she is using the plates to get the effect and not just the cake.
