Cake Help!!

okay so i decided i wanted to do my daughters 1st birthday cake, but i dont know anything about cakes at all, ive been looking through the site and seen some amazing creations. So i wanted to know how i can make 1? and what i need, i know i want 2 cakes on top each other with fondant. so what do i do and how do i make a cake, plus the cream, and use fondant?? and what flavours best go together, please help!!!

There is alot to creating a cake. Way more than can be taught in a few post responses. I think your best bet would be to google info you are looking for, there are alot of videos on you tube on cake construction and beginning decorating. By searching and reading you can get a general idea and then ask specific questions here at CC and I am sure you will get plenty of great replies.

Bake 2 square or rectangular layers and cut the number 1 out of them. The best way is to print a 1 the same height as your pan and as thick(boldest type) as possible.
Stack the #1's. I would recommend using buttercream for the filling and for the Coat the layers with a thin coating of buttercream and cover with fondant.
