Hello cookie makers!

What a great turn out for the April theme! Great job, everyone!!

The May 2010 Cookie Club theme isnautical/beach. That means that ANY cookies you make related to that theme fits. Have fun creating!!!

Just to refresh your memory (and for any new members), here are the "guidelines" for the cookie club posts (based on Cake_Princess' original post from a few years ago):

*Anyone can join us any month they choose! We love to have new members! This isnt a contest, just a way to share ideas, be creative, and learn new things related to cookies!!

* The group consensus was that all pictures must be new pictures (and new cookies). Meaning if you have a previous pictures of cookies already in your album (or in the forum) even if it depicts the theme, please do not use them for your entry in the cookie club. The idea of the monthly theme is to get our creative juices/new ideas flowing.

* Please post pictures in this thread (Do not create a separate thread for your pictures).

* Please wait to post monthly theme cookies to your personal album/ cookie Gallery until after the monthly theme has expired (the end of the month). I know you are anxious for everyone to see your cookies in your album, but keeping the monthly theme creations in only the thread for the entire month helps to increase traffic to the cookie club thread, which will help to keep it going and hopefully get more people interested in taking part. When the month is over, please feel free to post as many pictures as you wish to the galleries. We do love to see pictures!!

* Feel free to use any edible medium to decorate your cookies - fondant, royal icing, butter cream etc. The only stipulation is it has to be a medium used in cookie or cake decorating (so no play-doh!). In your post, please let us know about your creation the type of cookie, the medium you used to decorate your cookies, any techniques that you used, etc.

* The purpose of choosing a monthly theme is to have a central theme for everyone participating to follow in order to allow us an opportunity to be creative, try new things, and learn from each other. Please try to follow the monthly theme. If the design choice is not obvious, please let us know why you chose the design you did (for example, if the theme was Music and you made ghost cookies then let us know the connection. Ghost = Phantom and Phantom of the opera > music).

* The theme is chosen at the beginning of each month by the first person to post a picture the previous month. That person should PM Bonniebakes with your theme choice before the month is over so that the new thread can be started on the 1st of the month (or within a day or two from the 1st).

Happy Baking, everyone! I cant wait to see the results!!

I was so happy the theme this month is nautical/beach since these are about my most favorite cookie to make and happened to be working on them.

Have made them many times and also entered them in the
Central Florida Fair. NFSC with MMF/MFF combo. The shells are made from fondant with a First Impression mold.

Hope you like them.

Wow, Linedancer, those really are too pretty too eat!

Did you use both MMF and MFF or is there a combined recipe? Sorry to sound like a dummy but I'm just beginning with fondant.

Do you use some kind of stamp to get the brown designs in the background?

Thank you for all of your kind words. icon_redface.gif

cindy58 I use a 50/50 mix of Rhonda's Ultimate Marshmallow Fondant and Michele Foster's Fondant. I love the taste and mouth feel of MMF, but with MFF added, it has more pliability. I make 1 batch MMF and 1/2 batch MFF, I knead them together while they are still warm. Makes almost 5# of fondant.

endymion I use patchwork cutters dipped in luster dust to make the designs in the background. They are really green, but they do look brown in the pic.

I love making cookies thumbs_up.gif and love seeing all the great cookie maker's pics on this site. You all are incredible.

Yeah, bobwonderbuns, you got me icon_rolleyes.gif When the topic was announced, I thought, time to get that dough out of the freezer. I still have some more, I got a new sand dollar cutter the other day, just haven't had time to play..

Thanks, KHalstead, I would be honored if you would.

Thanks, bonniebakes.

Also forgot to mention KHalstead, I just got a new camera. It is a Nikon Coolpix 122, and wasn't very expensive. It has a setting to take pics of food thumbs_up.gif

You don't have to adjust it or anything, just use that setting, so it is great for me. I usually take rotten pics, but since I got this camera, it has been easy to take better ones.

I didn't either, but I got my Mom a Coolpix for Christmas. She brought it with her when she came to visit, and I got to playing around with it and found that setting.

Needless to say, as soon as I could, I bought myself one.

so linedancer, you never said............How did you do the writing in the background on them?

The designs in the background are made with patchwork cutters dipped in luster dust. It doesn't take much dust, I usually dip the cutter in, then tap it on the table a couple of times to get some of the dust off, you don't want any of the openings clogged, just the edges coated. Kind of like stenciling.

Here are the cutters I used for these cookies. Photo from Country Kitchen.

Edited to add, this is not my cake, was just in the photo from Country Kitchen.

I'm an idiot. I had to make baseball cookies for my son's school's spring program ("Sermon on the Mound" heehee) and I forgot to hold back some dough to make some nautical cookies. icon_cry.gif
*sigh* maybe next week.

They really aren't words, just a design in the background trying to replicate sea grass. My piping skills are not good, and I have to find a way around that, so this is what I came up with.

I use the technique often for vines, leaves and what not. Anywhere I would like to cover a little space. It is how I made the vines and leaves on the pumpkins and the design on the acorns in this bouquet.
