Thank you Kileyscakes! I was sure she was misspoken. She said she had a training class two weeks ago and 2 weeks to play with it. I don't think she totally understood everything about it. She doesn't do cakes.
Overstock has it for 304.00 with the one cartridge is that a good deal? 2.95 shipping
Where did you get the pattern for cupcake wrappers?
http://imagesbyheatherm.wordpress.com/2010/02/26/cupcake-wrappers-with-bottoms/
Here is where to download them but you have to have sure cuts a lot or make the cut programs to cut them, which I totally recommend getting then you can use any image you want to cut, the fonts already on your computer and so much more, I ended up getting make the cut and it is really easy once you get used to it and you tube has great tuts on it and make the cut also has a great forum, I ask all kinds of stupid questions and they are answered in minutes. You can scour the internet for all kind of svg files. Just google what you want and put svg next to it and more than likely someone has the file on their blog or website!

I covered the Wilton while it rested, I tried Cocopan what a mess, let set out forever would not dry, mixed with gumpaste, added tysol, really had a hard time with it. Found if you change KA setting to 5-6 you can cut away without letting it set, but my or my it is thin. [/quote]
Thank you SO SO much!!! I was really getting annoyed with my Cricut Cake, however you tips worked GREAT!!! I really think rolling the fondant out directly on the mat is a HUGE help.
I am thinking about getting one of these. Which would be better, just getting the Expression for cheaper or the Cake? Is there a difference in capability?
We are having an issue with setting ours up. We are new to the Cricut system and now have the Cake...in the owner's manual it says that to make sure the blade is in the housing on a setting 4 with the dial...Ummm...we have no dial on our housing that it came with. In the owner's manual it gives a completely different pic of what came for the blade and housing. What do we do? I need to be able to adjust the blade.

I don't know if Overstock charges tax? Costco online has them for $300.00 and free shipping....but, you would have to pay tax. Also, they are being bought on ebay anywhere from $260.00 and up ($300.00) with free shipping. The one cartridge is standard. Someone posted on CC that they are going to have them in the Costco stores. I think it is temporary??? But, that it was suppose to be a good deal, and suggested to check with your local Costco to find out the dates. HTH

CutlassCoveCakes: There should be numbers on your blade housing. Make sure the numbers are facing you. If you can't see the numbers, take the blade housing out and reinsert it with the numbers facing you. You turn the blade to the number you want. There also dials are on the left and right hand sides of your machine. If the Cake is the same as the Expression, the speed and pressure dials will be on the left and the size will be on the right. I labeled a machine for you...

That is actually a great example in the pic of what I'm talking about. See the white blade housing in the pic? That is what we have. There is no number dial on it at all. It's a "stationary" housing with no number adjustment wheel on top...not sure if it's a new type or not...But the owner's manual has no reference to that whatsoever - it has the regular Cricut machine housing with the number adjustment wheel in it's diagram and those directions on how to install that one......but we will test it out and see what happens...thanks for the reply!
Thank you so much JaimeAnn ... by the way what font did you use on the frosting sheets that you posted ... thank you !!!
p.s. I would ask you the same thing of kileyscakes ... in the photo you submitted what was the font on your cake please
The cuts I made on the frosting sheet are on the cake basics cartridge.
The flowers ,bird and butterly were done at size 3 and the word sweet is on the cart also, I did that at a size 5.
The frosting sheets are useless after you cut on them, there are ways to maximize cuts and you can jog the blade to a blank space and start your cut there to get some extra use . but the scrap just gets trashed...I wont be buying any of the frosting sheets , I will use fondant & gumpaste. You can reroll the scraps of fondant & gumpaste as long as you dont let it get dried out .
Ok you all got me to break down and buy the cricut cake, so do I understand right that the cake takes a different blade than the expession and the regular cricut? Do they sell them locally? I've been cutting some stuff out with the regular cricut and the deep cut blade, where it has been VERY tricky it does work. I want the cartridges that go for the cake. I bought the elegant cake one , but I wanted the one that comes with the cake.
Thank you Kileyscakes for the link to the wrappers! That was so nice of you to share and all your suggestions are very helpful too. I need to go play w/mine. I have only tried frosting sheets so far. They don't taste very good and are rather expensive at $5.00 a sheet or actually $14.99 for 3 sheets.

Should be getting mine today or tomorrow. I am so excited!!! I hope I can get it to work as well as you guys did - otherwise - watch for my flurry of questions!!
got mine on friday and hope to mess around with it tonight, thanks for the helpful tips
Ordered mine and after I read about Linda McClure's issues with the maker of Cricut Cake, and slightly in part to other factors (but more so about LM) I returned it unopened for a refund. Looking forward to learning more about the other brand cutting machines that she is now currently using and hoping they will develop a food safe cutter soon. Sigh. I did have high hopes, but I cannot support a company that has shady business practices.
For all interested, instead of the Design Studio (which limits you to only the cartridges you have purchased, even though you can see everything when designing) check out the program "Sure Cuts A Lot". It's FABULOUS!!! For the same price as the design studio, you can import any clipart you find online and the cut it with the cricut. It's soooooooo worth the $60 and will really open up all your design possibilities and is SUPER easy to use. You Tube as a ton of how to videos.
Is $385 free shipping a good price.
This comes with 10 frosting sheets, basic and elegant cartridges, 12 x 12 cutting mat.

I pd $333 and some change (free shipping) for mine on HSN and included the extra cartridge, frosting sheets and cutting mat. I used a coupon that they sent by email. I am not sure if they are still emailing the coupons when you register. You can check them out www.hsn.com

Where on earth do you shop and how did you find a business that has perfect business practices?
Theres more to the Linda McClure's story.. the "issues" was she wanted more money than they wanted to pay. She also didn't want to travel to the shows to promote it. Which if you "want" to claim you thought of this( which 1,000's of us have been playing with the cricut and frosting for years), and you want to be the spokes person for the item, then you need to be available. But she didn't want to give up her cake business to do that. Just remember, there is usually 3 sides to a story, Person A, Person B and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle!
As for the Michaels person saying you shouldn't use it, that is what they are told to do. I can tell you that the machines are simular in what they do, but the cake one is food safe (NSF approved) and has some extra additions so that food doesn't get in the machine. If you use the Expression with any type of food, it voids your warrenty. Same goes if you use non-food items with the Cake.
I've had my cricut expression for years and now have the cake and I love both! All cartridges can be used in both.

I can not agree with you more...I was very interested in the cricut until I heard the whole story of how Linda was treated. I will not support a company with poor business practices either...ever!

That is what Mine cost on HSN.
There are some posts from people who are getting them for right around $300 on ebay and costco, but those do not come with the elegant cartridge or the frosting sheets.
The frosting sheets are good for practice but i wll not be buying any . They taste TERRIBLE!

I have heard this from quite a few people and everyone should do what they feel is right.
I know that there is more to this story than EITHER side is telling and of course each side wants people to believe THEM...
The bottom line for me was , This is something that will work for and help me in MY business and I am happy with it.
Every company we deal with everyday has had these same "issues" we just don't usually hear about them. From companies we buy our kids toys from to companies we buy our everyday household supplies from.
I have read Linda's story and agree with the previous poster that the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
It was her responsibility to protect her own interest, I personaly would have known to wait till all the proper legalities were finalized before "showing" them my technique, and her Attorney should have made sure to that.
Anyways, I am happy with my Cricut Cake .....

i called them last night on this and the one with the dial was a prototype and they are working on changing out the books to not have the pic in it with the dial......i was not happy when i opened my box and see this, hope this helps
