I haven't had time to play with mine realy so tonight I decided to just try it with one of the frosting sheets.

It cut perfect first try!

I set it to High pressure , mediun speed .

The one thing I think that is crucial is to make sure that whatever you are usng is stuck to the mat really well.

Too much shortening and it will slide and pull , tear, etc. Too little and it will move while cutting.

When you get the right amount it will stick firmly to the mat ( it is hard to push it around, feels like it is glued to the mat)

Here are my first cuts with the frosting sheets. Will try gumpaste in the next day or so cause the frosting sheets taste TERRIBLE!

I cut 12 of these crowns for cupcakes. I used Wilton fondant. I rolled it out very thin and waited 15 minutes before cutting.

Used expression to cut fondant/gumpaste for cake yesterday, not finished but will send pictures. Husband put hand in front of cake at base trying to fix and add more accents. Yes the blade gets plugged easy. No big deal to clean it. Used gumpaste/fondant mixture. Pretty much cut all day. Found freezing did not work no matter what. I found running through pasta maker, thinning to # 3 on my KA and then letting set 1/2 hour works great. Had rolled out pieces of fondant/gumpaste night before and bagged overnight, did not seem any different then just a few minutes of rest. Medium speed and about a # 3 on blade. Hey guys dumb question. Why does the pressure setting make any difference since the rollers are only touching the mat, not the product?

I have a question - can you upload your own designs to the cricut? Like a company logo, or original drawing or something like that, or do you have to use their cartridge designs?

You can use SCAL or MTC programs to do so.

I can't tell you the best place, but they are selling on ebay around $300.00 with free shipping, and Costco.com is offering them for $300.00 with free shipping. HTH

I have to agree with dreamacres. Freezing didn't help me, but putting the gumpaste through a pasta machine to #3 setting worked.
Dreamacres, did you covered the gumpaste when you let it sit out for 1/2 hour?

Wow, Thank you all for posting all of this great information. I just got mine yesterday and can't wait to play with it. My daughter turns 2 this week and I can't wait to use it on her cake. I was looking for some recipes to make the frosting sheets is there any that you all would recommend?

I got my machine on ebay with a cartridge for $260 and free shipping if you're in the USA...I'm in Canada so I had to pay $53 shipping but it's still much less expensive than the $429 I saw on HSN...can't wait to try all the great tips you ladies are sharing!!

I'm doing my 'happy dance', I've been playing with my cricut cake using the icing sheets it came with and no joy, tried leaving to dry and freezing. I just finished another play session using wilton fondant and woohoo sucess. I rolled the fondant onto the cutting mat and froze for 20-30 mins. I've now changed my mind, I'm not going to throw my machine out the window anymore.

I think the cricut cake comes with the Basic cake cartridge included.

I got mine on HSN and it came with the basics and the elegant cartridges.

The basic cartridge has a set of font some designs(flowers, butterflies, crown, scrolls ,etc. and a few phrases, Happy Birthday, Happy mothers day, congratulations etc.)

If you get one of the computer programs(SCAL or MTC) you don't have to buy more carts. you can cut images , clipart, etc. straight from your computer.

The pressure on the CC is for the pressure of the Blade. I am not sure if that is the same as on the Expression , but it controls how hard/deep the cutting blade presses.

I understand from this forum that you can use the deep cutting blade used for the expression cricut with the cricut cake. Also that it is ok to cut paper. I had heard this before, but the Provo Craft rep at a Midhaels demo said your couldn't What is right? I used paper once and it worked perfect. Confused!!!!

The font I used in my cake was with the cake basics cartridge. The fondant was fine once it was thawed with the wilton fondant. I did try to freeze some satin ice fondant and that did not work, It's like it never really froze and just got sort of sticky, I did have some luck with satin ice rolled thinly and then cut. I like the idea of sticking with wilton with gum tex added since I can get it locally and it comes precolored like the black and red since I only use it for decor anyway. Also add your gum tex and then let it rest I noticed that the next day when I went to roll it out it worked even better.

Yes you can I have done it just fine with making my own cupcakes wrappers, that is the whole reason I broke down and bought the cricut cake since I knew it would cut paper too. I just use the deep cut housing and blade and the mats that are made for the expression! Another thing I can see getting addicting is making banners and stuff for birthday parties!
