I have just made a four tier wedding cake and have to transport it to the venue for my daughters wedding tomorrow.
Can anybody please give me any advice on how to put it in the car so it does not move about. It is well dowelled. Thanks icon_smile.gif

Honestly, I've had bad experiences travelling with full stacked cakes (before I got my cake safe that is)..........did you happen to use SPS stacking system in there?

Or is it just dowels and cardboard rounds?

Use the rubber no skid stuff that you can buy by the roll. Probably I would put it right under the cake base, inside a shallow box or whatever you want to use to keep it up off the floor of the car, then more of it between that and the floor of the car. Then leave really early, drive really really slow, and actually make it a two person delivery if possible so that one person drives Slowly and the other babysits the cake. Take an emergency kit with anything you may need if there is a problem you have to repair. Good luck!

Good suggestions listed.
I use large, square pieces of thick foam to sit the cake on. Some on here have also suggested the foam egg crate pieces.
This to me, helps absorb movement when transporting cakes.
Good Luck, your cake is beautiful!! Have a great day fullof wonderful memories.

I put my tiered cakes in a carboard box used for transporting bread - I get them from my supermarket. I reinforced it with a tray and some duck tape ( no it's not pretty but it works!) And I'ts the perfect size for the cake base it won't move around. I prefer to hold it in my lap and let my DH drive the car. Good luck with the transport!

I put my tiered cakes on the floor of the back seat of my pick up with a clean towel underneath and the ac cranked up. Make sure your vehicle is as cold as possible before you place the cake in. IF you can fit the cake in your fridge, do so, a cold cake travels much easier then a room temp one. And as was said drive carefully. Your going to a venue so the delivery shouldn't be too bad. The weddings that make me nervous are the out doors ones cause you never know where they are going to pitch the tent. I have needed 4 wheel drive on more then one occasion to get back to a reception site.

Thanks for the advice, The cake is stacked with dowels and carboard cake bases.
There is a dowel running through the centre of the first three tiers and four dowels on each tier supporting the cakes, the boards are stuck to each tier with royal icing, and the cakes are stuck to the board with a thin layer of royal icing.
I will take my husband with me to transport the cake and will use rubber matting on the floor of the car with the cake in a bread crate and more rubber matting underneath it.
One good thing is the venue is 6 miles away and the road goes straight to the venue with no turning off.
Thanks for the advice about a repair kit. I did make extra decorations in case i needed them, but never thought about taking them and stuff i need to use if their is a problem.
I really do appriciate all of your advice, icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif
