I have a shop that is in a little mall and have a cafe table with 2 chairs out front for consultations/tastings. I was merrily decorating a cake when I looked up and saw a lady changing her baby's diaper on my table and throwing the wipes WITH POOP ON THEM directly on the table!!! icon_surprised.gif

I can just imagine my health inspector walking up just in time for the show. My heart was just about beating out of my chest. I said to the lady, "Excuse me, but people EAT on that table!!" She just looked at the baby and in a sing-songy voice started talking to the baby and continued to wipe! She totally ignored me!!! *sigh* Needless to say, I did a major bleach job after she left. Ugh

I've always believed that there are some people who go to school to study how to be nasty and filthy! Looks like you came face to face with someone on the honor roll at that school!

How rude, gross, and inconsiderate! People just don't think! As the mother of 3, when I have to change a poopy diaper when I'm out and about, I take the time to tie it up in a little bag before I throw it away so the smell doesn't hang around in the bathroom.

good grief !!! it doesnt surprise me, people are so ...I will edit my own language here..... alright.. now that that is out of my system icon_biggrin.gif I suggest putting a sign on the tables that reads. THESE ARE NOT BABY CHANGING TABLES !!!! (i know not feasable.. but I am still venting over peoples just plain rudeness)

icon_eek.gif I cannot believe the ignorance of some people. I wonder where she changes the baby's diaper at home? Or I should say where she doesn't change it. How gross.

I thought it was bad enough when I saw someone changing their kids diaper while he was laying on the seat of the food booth. On top of the table?! Yuck.

I understand that sometimes there are no bathrooms and you have to make the best of things, but even then you have to be somewhat decent and not look so GHETTO and do something like that.

I persay always carry doggy poop bags with me. If there are just no bathrooms I one go into a dressing room, or crap walk back to my car and change him (not in the trunk either); I'm not gonna lie it a PITA but I don't want people to look at my kids behind. That's embarrassing even for the little one.

That is just wrong that; sorry that happen to you.

This is what I just don't get... Wouldn't it be a no-brainer that poop and food just don't mix?? E-coli rings a bell here... icon_rolleyes.gif

I used to work at a deli in a grocery store that was right next to the produce department. I once saw someone put their baby down on the bin of watermelons to change it's diaper! icon_eek.gif

I read that when you are on an airplane, to carry antibacterial wipes with you to wipe your tray down with, because those are also used as baby changing tables quite frequently too. YUCK.

OMG! People are so stupid! I would NEVER in a million years change my kids diaper on a table meant for EATING! If there is no change table I will (like ayerim979) take him out to the car or find an empty change room in a secluded area or something. Seriously, the things people do AMAZE me.

PennieK - Seriously, ON a bin of watermelons!!!

I just don't get it... icon_cry.gif

That makes me want to gag. I have been somewhere once where there was no place to change a diaper (all of us have). I went in the bathroom, sat myself on the toilet lid, laid my enormous toddler on my lap (her feet were up near my face, to give the visual icon_lol.gif ), and changed her poopy diaper there. Sometimes you do what you've got to do, but a table top is NEVER appropriate.

Oh, WOW! That's incredible. And I thought it was bad when people sit their diapered kids up on the fast food counter while they order..... Yikes.

We once saw a lady change her son's diaper in the middle of a McDonald's play place right on the main play structure! YUCK!!!!

eww I wouldn't want to have dinner round at her house!!

I'm just glad you actually saw her do it, or you wouldn't have known to do your Big Bleach. I don't think people actually realise the risk of infections from doing things like that.

Awe man, I am so sorry you had to deal with that. I could just imagine what I would have done to the lady to get her out of my cafe... I would have made a scene and embarrassed her!

I've had to do this before in a pinch...but NEVER on the table...and I always try to stay as clean as possible, keeping the wipes from touching the seat, and away from prying eyes, when I do it on the bench. Usually though I end up changing him on the floor of the minivan if there is not a changing station.

That's just disgusting...and not even an apology when you confronted her! People are just so selfish these days. Its the same mentality that when driving, I get a dirty look because the OTHER driver didn't stop at the stop sign and I almost hit them...."Me first, Me first, Me first...."

oh sheesh, that made me gag a little, and how can someone be so clueless to just ignore someone telling them not to do it!

seriously...i have 7 kids so i have been in places that are hard to find somewhere but take responsibility and go back to the car or use a blanket or coat that can be washed later to put them on the floor of a bathroom.

i've even done like the PP stated and sat on the toilet seat while i put my kids on my lap and change them...do what YOU gotta do and respect other people while you do it!

Not only did she not apologize but she didn't even acknowledge me! I felt helpless, really. I just went next door to my friend's store to calm my nerves and waited for the lady to leave. I swear, selfish people are my biggest pet peeve and I feel like I was truly tested yesterday. But there was a little "stupid" mixed in there too! icon_lol.gif

that is truly appaling. I am a mom of 2 girls and like Ayerim, if I can't find a bathroom...we go out to the car, no one needs to see or in this strange world take pictures of my girl's behinds. And now thanks to Loucinda I will be washing down all the tray tables I ever go near....I guess I was a little naive thinking they were only for food as well. It is hard to believe the gall of some people....I feel bad for the kid...could you imagine later in life. So glad you caught it!!!

I think that the fact that she just ignored you is the most appalling! I mean we've all had stupid, moments, but instead of apologizing with an "OMG, so sorry I wasn't even thinking" she just ignored you, yeah, I think I would've made a bit of a scene. Does your mall have security people? I think I would have got one of them. If it's a little mall with shop owners pretty much in charge of their own area then you should have the authority to demand that she take her "business" elsewhere. I know, at the time your just too shocked and outraged to do anything though.
