Cricut, Make The Cut Or Sure Cuts A Lot??!?

I'm gonna bump ya because I'm trying to decide the same exact thing!

Does this program let you take any image and turn it into a cricut pattern?
MTC allows you to do all that. Here is a cake I did using MTC, my Cricut and some Browning Deerhead, rifle clipart I found doing a Google search. It worked BEAUTIFULLY! I highly recommend MTC over all the other programs out there (I have tried them all and MTC is my fav - now if only someone would pay me for my opinion, Tee hee).

I'm using SCAL - you can also download a trial version to play with. So download each and see which you like better before you buy. Apparently there is some issue with MTC and a lawsuit with ProvoCraft (see other threads on this board). I've successfully made cookie and cake stencils for airbrushing with SCAL.
I have both SCAL 2.0 and Make the Cut. I recommend MTC because it is very user friendly. Both do about the same thing...but MTC has a much shorter learning curve...in my opinion.
I have SCAL 2.0 and it lets you take an image (e.g a jpg file) and "trace" it into your current project. I.e., yes, you can take an image and cut it out w/ your cricut.
I downloaded all 3 demos and went with SCAL. Design Studio is frustrating and unintuitive. MTC is very easy to use. SCAL gave me a little more control...maybe I could have done the same thing with MTC but it wasn't clear to me how.
Sorry for being Dense, but can anybody tell me what any of these are, and whats the website ? the picture of the cake looks awsome, I would love to know what you all are talking about.
I personally have tried SCAL and MTC and I prefer SCAL. It is more user friendly than MTC especially for those who may not be very computer savy.

These are software that allow you to manipulate images to be cut with your Cricut.
DesignStudio works with the Cricut cartridges you own. SCAL and MTC let you use images on your computer.
go ahead and download the trial of DesignStudio. The trial version allows you to manipulate the images on the cartridge currently plugged into your Cricut. The trial versions of SCAL and MTC put slashes through the final cut so whatever you made will be unusable.

Thanks for all the awesome postings! I did download the trial of Sure Cuts a Lot, but am not seeing how to open a jpg and turn it into a SCAL file. How is this done? Also, does anyone have any cupcake wrap files already done (or a site that does)? I'd love to give those a try as well. Thanks!!!

Go to the file icon at the top left on the SCAL mat, and the drop-down menu will have an option for Trace object. That will let you browse your computer for the picture you want to trace, and once it does, press "okay" or "finish" or whatever it says (I can't remember exactly.)
( i just bought a cricut expression and i'm so dissapointed. Can anyone help me with a scal 2 version?
